Can someone please define:
-Runout
-Backlash
-Preload

Can someone please define:
-Runout, is how true the ring gear spins, if there is any warpage left to right-

-Backlash, the amount of freeplay or slop between the ring and pinoin gears

-Preload, the preasure put on the pinoin bearings by the pinoin nut

Refering to a 3rd member. a 3rd member is part of the housing. it holds the pinoin AND ring gear in one removeable section, toyotas,ford 9", eaton, semi truck and rockwell axles all have thirds. all conventional danas[20-80], gm 10 12 and 14 bolts, ford 8.8, dodge 9.25 and 8.25's donot have thirds as in the pinoin is removed seperatly from the diff in the housing
