Are Durango steering boxes reliable? I'm thinking of swapping one into my TJ instead of the usual waggy swap for a few reasons.... wanted to see if anyone here has one and has beat on it...

I'm running 35's. It hasn't given me issues yet. Prier to the 35's I ran 33's for at least 5 years.

We have a bone stock 99 4X4 with 90,000 miles, and has never even had mud tires on it. I replaced the steering box at about 75,000, cause the bearing on the output shaft was very loose, causing lots of bump steer, and wandering.
Dunno about the trucks first 50,000 miles, I think they were pretty rough, but not offroaded.
Had a heck of a time finding a rebuilt one here in the midwest.
Just my $.02

From what solidaxledurango has said a GM box works for a Durango if you cut one of the mounting ears off.
edit:So far the only thing that I have broken is my pump it burned up when mudding. I've been running synthetic ATF in it since and haven't had a problem.

Yup. My stock Durango box died 2x (wear/slop -> rebuild) with just 33s and the "extreme" :barf: wheeling you can do with IFS (unlocked of course).
During SAS, swapped to Chevy 2wd box (with 4 turn, non-var ratio). That was 50,000 trouble free miles ago with a locked front end and 35s. Lots of hard wheeling in there.

It sounds like it'll last a while under a very mildly built TJ... Still, what Chevy box did you use and how was the fit? Were the input/output splines about right?

I've got 1/32" sector shaft play in mine right now, I noticed the seal leaking about 2 weeks ago and checked it out last night. I've got a bit of wander that's driving me nuts, so I need to take care of it Real Soon Now. 121,000 relatively hard miles, 8,000 since the SAS.
under a light rig, I would go for it if it does what you need it to. over 100k is a pretty decent life in my book.

Spawn - I'm not going to replace my box with stock unless I need to do it in a hurry for some reason, so go ahead and let it go to whoever (no idea if that was directed at me or the world but just in case)

I'm interested in the box, too, Spawn... sorry I wasn't reading this often enough. Put me next in line after CRC, please...
