: Alternate Brake Pedel

I have a 1/71 FJ40 that I have done an 350/700R4 conversion. I was thinking of using my clutch pedel for an alternate front brake. I want to route my front brake line from the front master cylinder into a T at the clutch master cylinder. But I do not know if hit my brake pedel, will the brake fluid go up into the clutch master cylinder and visa versa?

TIA,

i've never tried it , but it doesnt sound good.
how about you cut the clutch pedal off and weld it to the brake pedal for a double pedal, i did it on the patrol and it work great for trail use. you can even bend it to get it further apart.

It won't work. When the master is not compressed, there is an open connection between the reservior and the piston. In the connection you describe, when you push on the clutch pedal, fluid will flow back to the brake master and overflow your reservior. When you push on the brake the clutch will overflow. IT may be able to be converted to a system similar to turning brakes where the secondary master is a closed system, but I don't believe the piston seals in the clutch master are in the proper relationship to the inlet(resevior) to make it work.

You could put a check valve between the master cylinders so it cant back flow, but then you are messing with brakes and that is kinda dangerous!

I agree with cruzilla, i would just take out the cluch cylinder and other crap and just leave well enough alone and go with the 4 wheel disk!

Dude, where did the 4 wheel disc come from? he's talking about the possibility of having 2 seperate brake pedals, not more stopping power.

i have a hard time left foot braking just because its clutch foot and it lacks the finesse, so i'd rather just use a hand throttle and my right foot. i still have alot of improving to do with my driving though. you can never be happy right? take it easy-

oops, i assumed he didnt have 4 wheel disk and was looking for more stopping power. :smokin:

"when you assume, you make an ass out of u and me." :D
I guess i'll never learn :D
