My buddy called Dutchman for me about the new D60 inner (FRONT!) axles that I will be getting soon and they told nim that they are OE axles. He clarifed with them that they use std new axles and cut and respline them.
For those of you that have custom width 60's, is this what you have? Does someone else make an alloy replacement or something like it? I'd hate to spend money on a new set of custom length axles and not get them as strong as possible so that I never have to replace them again*crossing fingers*;)

depends on how custom you really wanna be and how much you are willing to spend.

mine are 1.75 dia 300m 40 spline and gun drilled. if that is the kinda custom you are looking for i can hook ya up

I don't think that many people are making anything special for dana 60 fronts. Sunray uses 1480 yokes with seperate inner shafts. You could have alloy inner shafts and outer shafts that way. The weak point is going to be the yoke or the joint. I think avalanche and wagoner are doing some different stuff too.

Camo, your using those in front? DAMN!!!

front and back :D

also using 1.75 dia 40 spline gun drilled 300m stub axles

my axles use a 2 peice design with cro-mo yokes and CTM 300M ujoints.

hopfully my entire rig will twist in half before any of my axle componets fail. :D

FYI sunray uses a stock spicer drive shaft yoke and stock dana 70 axles that they respline to make theire hybred inner axles.

I've been looking for something like this. I got a 60 that i cut down in the front on my project rig, and instead of investing money in new cut down spicer shafts(i don't have any shafts) i figured i would try to go alloy.
I am looking for something similar to a warn d44 shaft but for a 60, cro-mo but not necessarily 300M, 35 spline, and i am going to run some CTM's.
I take it you know a machinist who is making these completly custom and not mass produced.
So what is an aproximate price for a full set of front shafts like that?

Thanks

hang on to your hats boys cause this kinda one off stuff aint cheap.

just a guess but for standard 35 spline 1.5 dia 4130 cro-mo axles, stub axles and yokes i bet it would be around $1500

now if you want some 40 spline 300m gun drilled ones you need to consider that every other part needs to be hand made.

spindles
wheel hubs
drive plates
locker side gears
locker case.
then you need to make special seal areas.............................

you get the idea.:D

if ya really want some give sandy cone a ring. 805-239-2663

why would you drill a hole down the center of your shaft?

a holow shaft would be harder to bend

As I figure it it would be easyer to twist.

why spend the money in order to have a infurior
product???

98 percent of the strength of a solid shaft but half the weight.

I called Moser two weeks ago and they said that they were forging them right now. They should be available in 4-5 months, and, of course they had no estimate on price.

Opps..forgot to check up on this...almost had to use the search to locate it again.

Anyway, thx Camo and others..looks like it'll be the std cut-down shafts for me...no sense it doing 300M shafts with 30 spline outers;)
