: Dana 30 and 35 axles

How strong are Dana 30 & 35 axles if they were under a rig that is about 2400 lbs? The tires will be 35 or 36" x 12.50-15's.

not strong enough for anything but the little curbs at the mall. The 30 may hold with chromos and longfields but there is no way to make a 35 strong enough to take it if its actually wheeled.

they are really strong, so strong infact, that im running them in my rig, i have a blown 454, and 44" boggers, and they handle that with no problem at all.

Well, that's how it is....As well as this forum is full of usefull information,it's also full of assholes!!!.Believe me,I've started threads on here, and gotten some good replys,as well as replys from fuckin' assholes who think they know everything, and think that because you're new,and don't have 5 billion posts, you don't know shit!...I'm new to this thread, but DEFINATELY not new to wheelin'....About your question, the 30 may hold up to some wheelin',depending on your driving style(and Longfields are for Toyotas buddy)but the 35 is almost junk...I've got a couple of buddies running them with the super 35 kit, with 33,and 35 inch tires...I didn't bother spending the $$$ to build them,I'm running a High Pinion 60 front, and a 14bolt rear.

I believe that Indybill is under the impression that if his rig only weighs 2400lbs will 30's and 35's be ok.If you have to know just remove the inspection cover and look at the size of the parts  ,I think they'd break if you just strapped the engine right to the axle, straddled it and said "ride 'em cowboy"
Man,if ya gotta build a ultralite rig at least use a 8.8 Ford in the rear and a high pinion in the front.

I think you'll find you only get assanine replies when you ask stupid fawking questions, or when you give someone else crappy information. :shaking:

youre a FNG too so dont be an asshole. also, a d35 makes a good anchor, so it is not all that useless.

IndyBill - you can look at it this way, the 30/35 combo will probably cost you next to nothing from any TJ/XJ/ZJ donor but the aggravation will be expensive. The hpD30 is probably the only useful contender, so combined with a ford 8.8 out of an explorer or ranger you will have a reasonable 3/4 ton running gear, matching bolt patterns and pinion ratios, f/r disc brakes, a rear tracloc, and lastly cheap and abundant spares.

A 2500lb rig sounds like a single seater, chromoly tubed, 4cyl cricket.. what do you have planned?

3/4 Ton? What? A D30 from a Cherokee and an explorer 8.8 is now 3/4 ton? pfffftt.

And to think that I was happy that my Chevy 3/4-ton has a 14-bolt. I coulda had an 8.8! Dang.

For all those who gave out good info and advise, Thanks for the help!!! Ive used the forum search by putting in Dana 30 and 35 with not much luck. Also I didnt post in the newb section because these axles came from a Jeep.

To all you flamers --- :flipoff2:

Well since it was now moved to the appropriate forum......

The D35 will explode and cause you to be stranded somewhere - whether that be the trail or at the mall you won't know until you try to use it. A friend of mine runs 35's on his D30 front and it has survived behind a V6....for how long - who knows? Basically, ditch the D35 for sure - put in an 8.8 or a D44 at least. Good luck.

Hah whoops yea you're right.. how about a 1/3 ton.

3/4 Ton? What? A D30 from a Cherokee and an explorer 8.8 is now 3/4 ton? pfffftt.

And to think that I was happy that my Chevy 3/4-ton has a 14-bolt. I coulda had an 8.8! Dang.

Been my experience over the last year, (I have a YJ with the 30/35) Both axles hold up well IF YOU DONT LOCK THEM, RUN NO BIGGER THAN 33" TIRES and DONT DRIVE ON THE TRAIL LIKE AN IDIOT.

Out of 1 thru 10 degrees of trail difficulty, I run 3-4's pretty hard ( I wheel about once a month ATLEAST) I feel the 35 has held up this long because Its still open and I think when I'm on the trail instead of just nailing the throttle.

The 30 is a decent light duty axle

The 35 is fine for light duty 'get you out the house' wheeling. (mine will be replaced with an 8.8 ASAFP)

As for putting 35 or 36's on 30/35.................:nuke:

On to the axles.....I regularly see complete ford 8.8's for sale for around $200, and dana 44's for around the same price, maybe a little more, so why the hell would you even bother putting any money into the 30/35 if you plan on running 35-36" tires, I would say buying the stronger axles is a no brainer but what do I know, Im just a stupid noob with no posts
