found a barely used (16K miles) 2004 Chevy 2500HD duramax diesel, ext cab, long bed. price is about $7K below bluebook value. (which is great, but at the same time makes me wonder why) course it is almost new and under factory warranty still... anyhow.
any quirks with this year and model? its gonna be a work truck plain and simple. will pull my dump trailer, will haul dirt and rock and equipment, general all around work stuff.
opinions? i test drove one today and DAMN it was a dream to drive compared to the 350 SD i drive now. night and day difference. it was more like driving a big car, turning radius was great, handled good, rode nice. and damn was that diesel QUIET!
so before i jump in, anything noteable about this truck?

Did you run a Carfax on it yet? It must be a private individual, no dealer would let it go that much under book. Look close for damage, ask why he's selling it so cheap.

What is the price, may I ask? I have seen similar ones go for $26,000-$28000 at dealers which is way below book. All were 6spd's.I just bought an 01 and love it.A ton of power and very comfortable.

At a local dealer's ad here they have 2 2005 2500HD duramax crew cabs for $28,988 each after rebates and cash back. I don't know what options they have. But you know how ads go. They may have sold those trucks already.

At the chevy dealer i work at we have an '03 w/ 30k on it, white, extended cab short box, auto, lots of options, not sure about xm or on star, no leather, good shape, running boards, vent visors, toneau cover, good shape, they are asking 32 grand for it. Our prices are usually kinda high and diesels go for a pretty penny around here but still that seems like a killer deal. I'd be real weary, check for bolts that have been turned in the engine compartment that shouldn't have been at that mileage, brand new parts, new paint, door gaps, doors being adjusted after a wreck.

got there today to check it out and guess what.
the dumbass salesman told me he had "accidentally" quoted me the wrong price. it was actually listed at $31K :( - said he could go to $29,500 but no lower.
prick.
did find a 00 F350 Crew Long bed 4x4 diesel w/ 70K on it for $22K though.

Tell that dealer to go pound sand and get out of there. Buy from a private party. At least with a private party you have a 50% chance of being told the truth. A dealer will lie 100% of the time.
