I had a DC tig for a while and basically just used it to learn on but I wanted something that would do aluminum. I've been reading everything I could find here and everywhere else trying to figure out what i needed and I was pretty much set on the Miller Syncrowave 180 or the Lincoln Precision Tig 185.
I went down to Heath's Welding in Dublin to check them out and they just happened to have a used Lincoln Squarewave 255 sitting there that they gave me for $300 less than the 185 would have been! What luck! And they even delivered it! Those guys are great!
It came on a pallet so my first project with it was to put some wheels on it. I used some little casters off an old tool box and welded them to some 3" flat bar. I was a little worried that the casters were too small but the thing actually rolls around really well.
Now you can really weld some sheet up. Thats a nice machine!!!

I have the same welder... Got it used through the Lincoln Electric Motorsports program... used to be in Chip Ganassi's Shop. Awesome welder... I like it better than the newer versions of the same level (precision tig 275)... Little secret is that the reason they "Updated" the 255 is that they cost too much to make and they were able to make the newer versions more cost effectively. Awesome welder... good luck with it.

Errrrr Cost to much to repair... dont mess up the control panel... they are costly, around 400-500 bux.
Thats just what I know about the 255.

Only did Tig welding for about 2 weeks and that was 20 years ago. Sure wish I had the confidence to spend that much and dedicate myself to such a refined art as Tig. At any rate can I go to your shop sometime and have a few lessons?

Just got me a TIG welder too, I bought a Precision TIG 275 water cooled last Monday, and I added a Weldcraft water cooled TIG torch and a pulse control panel, that thing welds great. Couldn't find any good used ones around here so I had to fork out more than I should have on this one, last toy I'll be buying for a while. Couldn't get the pics of it in my shop to post for some reason so here's the link.
