anyone? i just went out and drove it tonight without the trailer and cruiser and the temp got all the wat up to 200. i didn't really drive it all that far and that temp has me worried. i am wondering how hot it will get when the outside temp gets up in the 90's and 100's and i am pulling the trailer.

I would say that's a little on the warm side. The C6 in my trail rig runs about 180* on a hot day. You are pushing a lot more weight, I would seriously consider an aux cooler mounted in direct airflow, and also a deep pan to get some more fluid capacity. Some say up to 250 is still safe, but man that is really getting hot. Why risk shortening the life needlessly?

the fluid curently runs through cooler in the radiator and it also has a separate cooler mounted uncer the motorhome with it's own fan. i have considered the deep pan but i am not sure how much that will benifit it. thanks for the response.

on my pick up, pulling my 5th wheel with the jeep in it (15k pounds) it hangs out at about 180 all day. not towing its around 140.

my superduty's tranny runs about the same. that is why i am kinda worried about what i saw. i guess i'll just have to see what happens when i pull it. if it gets hot i'll just have to take it easy and stop and let it cool down. if this happenes i'll add a bigger pan and by pass the in-radiator cooler for another aux. cooler mounted in front of the rad. anyway thanks for the replies

well ok i am definitely having tranny heat issues. i have driven it a couple of times now and just today it got up to 250 after only a 20 mile drive at 70mph. i have bypassed the in radiator cooler but run a stacked plate style cooler in front of the rad and a dual row tube and fin style cooler mounted under the motor home with it's own dedicated fan. i now really doubt the cooling sustem is the issue. what is causing the heat? what can i do? thanks

where are these temps taken? is the sensor in the pan, or in a pressure line? my sensor in my dodge is in an aux filter right before the cooler, and it runs at 220-230 all day long.

the sensor is in the test port on the side fo the tranny housing.

Do you have a FSM? Not all test ports (at least with Dodge) are active at all times.

You might be in a port that's only active when in reverse or something like that... So it's showing you the temp of the case instead of the fluid.

Can you verify that the port you're using is active when you'd need it to be?

no i do not have a FSM. i have considered this and i think i will try and move the sender just to try it out. thanks.

well after doing a lot of searching, wrenching, cussing, etc. etc. i found that my tranny was not actually overheating. the motorhome had a bad motor to ground was causing the tranny temp gage and water temp gage to read high. yesterday i went out to work on it and there was a lot of other stuf acting up. once i got that fixed the tranny only got up to a steady 205 on the highway and once i slowed down and got off itwent to 210. while this is still hotter than what i was seeing in my truck but i figure a 3 speed pushing a big motor home at 70 mph down the highway is bound to create some heat. also when i got home i realized that during all of my troubleshooting i had turned off the dedicated elec. fan on the second cooler so it was not runing the whole time. anyway from what i have ready i am comfortable with 210. i am going to hook up the trailer with the cruiser on it today to take it for a spin. it is supposed to be up to 95 degrees today so i figure it will be a good test. thanks for all of the replies.
