View Full Version : In case you were thinking about buying those 99 cent HF halogen bulbs...
Don't waste your time or money. They have 500 watt halogen shop bulbs on sale for 99 cents in their new catalog. I went to the store a week ago and purchased 2, figuring that even if they were crap they'd last a few weeks or something. The first bulb lasted a day before burning out, and the second lasted a matter of hours. For some reason the ceramic ends crumbled off, I assume from the heat, rendering the bulbs worthless. I didn't think it was possible to fuck up a halogen bulb, but Harbor Freight apparently can.

This is like the 4th or 5th HF thread where people state "this stuff sucks"
Did HF ever make good stuff? Or is it all made in "Cheena"

HF is for cheapo tools. Great for trail tools and other crap but I would never buy anything there that will be my main tools. But really.....you should have seen this one coming. :p Thanks for the heads up.

I've bought some good stuff from there, and some crappy stuff. I rarely ever buy this cheapo electronic stuff. I bought an electric impact once that crapped out on me with a quickness. But I figured you couldn't screw up light bulbs. I've bought a few things that were great.. like a cheapo clicker torque wrench for lug nuts and other things that don't need to be too precise. They *do* make some decent stuff, you just have to be careful what you buy.

We use dual 500watt lamps in our 12x55 shop. I bought the bulbs at wal mart, they had three of them with a little storage case for 9.99. I probably already have 20 hours on them this week and they're still fine. Pretty sure they were GE brand.

I bought their two jaw puller set when I did the gears in my Dana 60 / 14FF. They were $15 for the set, I figured what the hell they'll work for this one time setup. They've probably done another 4 gear installs and other taks and they still work. They have a livetime warranty, but you have to keep the receipt. so I keep them in the original box with the receipt for WHEN they break.

I've had similar crappy results with the HF bulbs. Generally last for 1 use.
