I got stuck a couple weekends ago when the front hubs wouldn't engage on my stock '95 4cyl wrangler. I figured it was just the vacuum lines (since it's happened before), convincing me once again that i need to get POSI LOK. so i tried to shift into 4 low for some reason, and 4 Low wouldn't engage at all. The shifter feels like it's all the way down, but the rear didn't engage, it was as if the t-case and tranny were both in neutral. My toughts are that if the vacuum lines have problems, the rear wouldn't be effected, is this right? Maybe a linkage problem? I know it's very limited info, but any thoughts out there? Trying to put myself through college, so i'd rather not take it to a shop to find out the problem.
I tried searching but i must not be any good at it because i coulnd't find much. I'd greatly appreciate any help on this.

Is it JUST the rear that does not engage  When you have this problem, does the front engage
Sounds to me like you have a linkage problem. The neutral position is between the 4hi and 4lo positions, so you might not be getting out of neutral.
In this position, both outputs would be engaged together, but power is seperated in the range synchro, before getting to the t-case main shaft.

Adjust your linkage. There should be a set screw block on the rod going back to the shift lever on the case. IIRC you need to move the rod forward relative to the set screw block.

The front doesn't engage either, but i'm pretty sure that's because of the vacuum lines. In 4 hi the rear still works, but the front doesn't, and in 4 low, nothing works. I might be going to my parent's house this weekend, so i'll borrow some of their tools and try to mess around with the set screw. Thanks for the info

Dont waste your money on the posi-lock. Just convert your passenger side axle to a 1 piece. A d44 seal will fit into the outside part of the vacum housing, thus giving you a good seal. That way you dont have to change the diff side seal.
If your rear output is not engaing then your t-case is in neutral.

Do i have to get an aftermarket 1 piece, or is this a junkyard find. Not planning on throwing too much money at a D30.
