Then I am gonna break out the sawzall and go hog wild on my Bronco. I wonder how much sheetmetal I can cut off before I pass out.

welndmn
02-26-2002, 02:06 PM
Dunno, i used 12 inches a side but it would be really cool to plate the whole arm to add even more beef, and i have no idea how long the arm is

Here is a pic of the shock mount i did with the 2x2 and 1 inch round tube, the tube picks it up a little so the wristing of the arm does not touch it
umm imange the mud not on it

I will bring a grinder and a bunch of other metal that we can make the shock mounts out of too. What size and length bolts do i need and lastly where the HELL we doin this at.

1uglyranger
02-26-2002, 08:05 PM
I was gonna make a nut and bolt pick up for everyone, just want to know who want's to run what size, and type of nut, ie: castle nut or lock nut. Also, OSH has differant size hitch type pins if you wanna run those, or you can just run another bolt.

Soooooo what size.....??????

Ugly, I would love for you to pick up some Grade 8 3/4" bolt and nut with lock washer and regular washer. AS for the pin idea, we are on the same page here. I was thinking the same thing with some MONSTER cotter pin as well. Maybe a 1/2" to a 3/4" one. Maybe we should all agree on the size that way we can build a one size fits all sort of thing. I have not been to Osh in a LONG time, so Ihave no clue whgat they have, but think big and burly, and you have me in mond. The bigger the better.

I can't wait until this weekend. I am getting the jitters already

I got the 1/2x4 idea from Welndmn. I think he must have cut it down the middle or something. You're right, if we go by Mark's write up, and I think we should, 1/2x2 and 1/2x2.5 should do it. Less cutting too:D

Now correct me if I am wrong here, but the stock is for plating right. We only need about 1 foot per side to plate them and drill. If you want to do the length of the arm, you have a whole other story . In that case we have to get 3 foot sections.

As for the bolts, I say we use 3/4" bolts, and like I said the biggest dam pins we can fit in there. I like the idea of 3/4" pins as well.

I will bring some beer for those that like a better vintage, like some Becks, which is on sale right now at Cala foods. Damn, now that I think about it, I am one thirsty bastard, I think I am gonna go shopping for beer.

Yeah we don't need much metal, like 2-3 feet or 3 inch to 4 inch wide 1/2 plate per arm (rigth around the C it goes to 2.5 inches wide, so it needs to be cut down), but i was thinking of plateing the whole arm from C to to bolt jut to add some serious beef,
Its going to be a long day i think. most of the time will be spent cutting down the 1/2 plate to fit beween the U part of the arm and drilling holes, it wouild be sweet if every one got thier own metal and cut it down before, i already have mine cut and tacked so no worries

The bolts are not that big of deal IMO, we can all get bolts on our way home, but we need some for fitmit isusses

Dimriti- Albertsons had the Becks Mini Keg on sale for around 14 bucks a few days ago, its only about 8 beers or somethinf, but i bought it for this party so we can kill that first! (mini Keg stands)

I was going to drop off my crappy drill press sometime this week.
I'll drop it off at your place on Saturday Mark when I'm on my way out to mikes house I'm going to buy his chopsaw :D

Mind if I stop by on Sunday to stuporvize?

Need me to bring any tools or supplies.
I have grinder will have chopsaw will drop off drill press.

I have a plethora of unused die grinder bits but no die grinder.
Drill works nicely for me :D

Mark is right here. Thoses sawzalls are going to be smoking cutting 1/2" plate all day, especially if your planning on cutting full length filler plates. It would be nice if someone had a plasma cutter.

Hehehe Mike i did go try and make some for a friend and was going to make a 2nd set for you, but could not get a hold of a chop saw and cutting the solid stock 2x2 with a sawzall and grinder is a joke
(the other Mike would not sell me his chop saw because Todd was going to buy it :p), i was going to call you tonight too todd and make sure you were going to still gonna get it
Todd my house or Marks house for the drop?

a plasma or even a really stong torch would be nice, i think it took me like 1-2 hours to cut the fillers, but i move really, really slow

Mark H- Sounds like we each need the following:

(2) 1/2"x 2"x 12" long
(2) 1/2"x 4"x 18" long

OK, lets get this straight. I understood that we need 1/2 by 2 and 1/2 by2.5 but why 4. Also i will bring a couple of 9in grinders and trust me i can wittle the peices down pretty quick with one. Do you want the 2.5 to be 18 inches as i was going to shear all the stuff we need. i will bring some other assorted plate also. I could bring a plasma but it runs on 460 volts. I have all the stuff needed (tools: plasma cutter fer 1/2", welders, grinders, and literally tons of scrap steel. ) I also would have been able to get 2'x6'x1/2" steel plates by the sheets. They just scrapped it all at work. Mark Harris knows me (kinda). I helped him w/ his rockers several months ago.

Brandon is a good guy, when i had no access to a welder he put my rock skis on for me, late one night

Yeah i started fabbing the brackets last night
Just get a crap load of 3 inch wide 1/2 plate, i got about 10 feet the other day i figure about 4 feet an arm
I think my write up was wrong so trust me 3 inch wide is the ticket
the filler plate (the one welded to the arm) is about 15-16 inchs long (i just eye ball it, it don't matter) and the top plate that welds to that plate (outter plate) is a few inchs shorter of that filler plate
Makeing any sense? (stop by my house i will show you)
This way that top plate can be welded to the bottom filler plate.

Todd do you have the big drill doctor? no one around here will sharpen my 3/4 inch bit and it is getting pretty dull

Sorry Mark I have the little drill Dr. but the great video that came with it is the same one that comes with the big Drill Dr.

Well, my local steel source is out of 1/2 x 2 so I'm screwed.

I hope Smurfsdad is able to hook me up.

Mark H.- I'm a little confused by your last post. Do we need 1/2 x 3? as well as 1/2 x 2?

OK, I am really confused now. Do we each need to bring our own steel? If so, I am out, because I can't get to a steel yard until next week. if someone can hook me up, I will pake it worth your while, just let me know how much $ and beer i owe you when I get there. I am sooooooooo excited. I just got a new pair of welding gloves from a buddy (SF Fireman official issue gloves they use in the fires :) ) I am dying to try them out and see if they work after all.

Dang, I bought steel today and paid $22 for 6' of 1/2 x 2" and 4' of 1/2 x 6 " I thought that was a bit much.

I'm havin my own wristed arm party, so screw y'all ...I'm half way done already :flipoff2:

I found a killer brass bushing, but it's only 3/4 ID and 1 OD. I almost bought it, but I'm having second thoughts about using a 3/4 bolt. My biggest drill bit is 7/8, so i think I'm just going to use a 7/8 bolt.

Damn grade 8 bolt is almost $10

He was telling me about that a couple weeks ago. Seems his new wife was pretty understanding about it.
