Hey all!
I'm looking to stuff 315/75r16 under my 94 1500. I was wondering what people have expierenced with different tires. I do a lot of street driving between college, but when I'm up there I wheel alot. I was looking in to the MT Baja claws, but what about the Geolanders, Cooper Discoverys, Swampers? Do they work good in the sand, I go to Silver lake often so they need to be decent. I would like something that wears pretty decent on the road so they will last me through college. Also does anyone know where to get a decent price on a tire wheel combo?
Thanks for the help.

MT's are not gonna work good in the sand, they will dig you deeper if that's what you want to accomplish. As far as stuffing a tire and running dunes, you are asking for a darwin award.

If you do a lot of street driving, and wheel in the sand, I don't think you can beat the BFG AT's. They aren't good in mud or rock crawling, but everything else they are great in.
The Geos have a serious weakness in their sidewalls. They are easily punctured and very vulnerable...especially when aired down. The tread pattern is good though.
Baja claws rock in most terrain, and aren't bad on the street (from what I've heard), but royally suck on compact snow and ice.
Just stay away from 4Wheelparts, even if they are the cheapest. Service sucks, and their "No Questions Asked" warranty is most certainly not... Check prices on Tirerack.com, and see if anyone local will price match.
Not much experience with any of the Interco stuff, but they all wear fast. Thornbirds are poser tires, but work well in the sand. They just wear out in 20K miles. Truxus STSs are good in the sand as well, but also wear out quickly.
Your best bet with them would be the Truxus MTs or the SSR radials, but neither will be great in the sand.
Hope it helps.

Based upon the original poster's requirements... I agree with the above statement 100%.

Thanks all for the help. I have been looking in to the Baja claws, because when at school its nothing but mud up there so I need enough traction to pull all the other guys out. I do have winter tires, so I'm not really conserned about the snow, but other than that the Claws sound good, right? I have a couple friends with the BFG A/T and while being a all around tire they do suck in the mud, thats why I wasn't looking in to them. Plus everybody and her brother seems to have them, so I was looking to try different tires. Looking at pricing, I have found that the Claws seems to be around $190. I'm going to check prices on tirerack.com and local stores.
Thanks for the help, if you know anyother tires please let me know.

Everyone has BFG A/Ts because they are good tires. I run them on just about everything, including my trail rig. Yeah, they suck in mud, but I gave up the mud thing. Just a waste of time and a pain to clean. When I do need to go through mud or something bad, I just stick on a set of chains. Either way, I wouldn't worry about what everyone else has, or wanting to be different. Use what works for you and what you can afford. Just my .02

I borrowed a friends 315's and ran them up at Silver lake, then around the trailes at school and they only rubbed when I was at max flex and turn, other than that they worked great. I have no problem with the BFG A/T but I was just wanting to see what else is out there. Thanks for everybodys input. Is there anyother tire out there that somebody is running finds them awsome?
