: East Coast opinions of Xterrains?
clemsonjeep 05-09-2005, 05:01 PM Alright, I've searched and read and even searched a little more...and most of the posts I find regarding the Xterrains is by someone out west. They seem to be hookin up really well out there...but how about on East Coast trails? Who runs them at Tellico, Windrock, Paragon, or the Superlift OHV area. How do they do on the trails with mixed rocks and mud. Ill be upgrading from 35 BFG M/T KM's to the 37 XTC compound versions. Gimme the low down...
Crappy if you ride in any mud, IMO. Loads up bad.
74_Chevota 05-09-2005, 06:33 PM Saw them at Jellico twice and both times was not impressed at all with them. Loved the rigs they were on but the tires are one of my least favorite. MUCH better choices in tires for and east coast rig IMO.
sknydwn 05-09-2005, 07:54 PM I have no first hand experience with these tires, but I've seen a few set ran at tellico and they didn't get near the traction as tsl's, iroks and krawlers.
got4-lo 05-09-2005, 09:28 PM one of the best tires i have seen is the IROK, and that will be my next set of tires. now im runnin a TSL SX and they do great also
blk87K5 05-10-2005, 07:46 AM I ran them in Clayton, OK a few weeks ago and had no problems. If youre rig is light, you will have to air W-A-Y down. I started at 8 psi front and rear and ended up with 3 in the front and 2 in the rear. Once I figured out the tire pressure thing, they hooked up well. I have never had mine in mud, but I dont think they would clean as well as an Irok for obvious reasons. It was however really wet in Clayton, and mine hooked up well.
aven2rus 05-10-2005, 08:31 AM I ran the 35's here in PA at Paragon Park and was very pleased with the all round performance. They worked great on the rocks here, even better on the packed gravel/sand, not a mud tire but not bad either.
I also drive to and from the Park (45 minutes) and they hold better than anything I have yet to run in the rain on asphalt.
I will be trying the new Xtreme AT with the move to 37's as I still drive it on the street and was concerned the softer compound and wear.
The Xterrain 37" is differant compound than the 35" though and a stronger 3 ply side wall. That would be a large factor in the low PSI for the trail.

you don't know chit. :flipoff2:
The key to tires like that is airing them WAAAAY down like mentioned earlier.

I have seen them run at UROC and can tell you they dont work good in mud. I can see them doing alright in dry conditions but even if they do alright why would you get them when you have sooooo many other choices in good east coast tires that work in the mud and dry conditions? (i.e. IROK, TSL, Procomp MT, BFG MT, ect. ect.)
jeepinmatt 05-12-2005, 02:41 PM Ive ran em (33's and 35's) and they worked really well for a set of all around tires. They wear a little quick, and aren't the "best" mud tire, but are better than some mud tires depending on the type of mud. Now I run IROKS and they are a good bit better, but the street wear is even quicker.

WTF does airing down have to do with the crappy close spacing of the lugs and loading up?
Schmozilla 05-13-2005, 12:15 PM a friend of mine runs Xterrains we usualy ride at tellico and uwharrie. they hold thier own in the mud, but you really do have to air them WAAY down. we have been to uwharrie the last weekend that the park is open and it was a nightmare it was so muddy and he did fine.
rokcrwlrtj 05-13-2005, 12:39 PM let me shit on your wheels and you could take a test drive.
would be about the same thing.
Peak ZJ 05-14-2005, 12:59 PM No good in the Mud.. So East Coast No Go...
FordCarnage 05-15-2005, 06:15 AM The best choice for you would be a 35" Bogger.
rockstar 05-15-2005, 05:02 PM yeah ted, your krawlers kicked that muds ass at the bottom of guard rail!
