So what magazines do you read? Not the ones you just look at the pictures but what 4wd/vehicle magazines do you read?

I read them all, but they suck most of the time for tech.. I'd rather hang here for tips, advice.. Real wheelers not yes men that publish those magazines...:D

However the trend towards 2wd desert racers just doesn't seem right, out of a 4wd magazine.

But all that aside, what do you consider all of them?

i have a sub to 4WD&SU but usually pick up or one of the others (fourwheeler, 4wheel &OR, JP, off-road, etc) each month depending on what the contents of the issue are.

I read them all when I have time (sitting in the OFFICE). I'd like to start a black/white paper mag. with heavier content and harder edged tech. but would anyone want it? We could not complete with the glossy's but........If there was interest.......something that would follow ALL the RRC's and the competitors, tech articles from the PRO's, hardcore trail reports and updates, landuse issues, a good classified section, and more reader input.
Great idea? anyone with some back ground want to help?

I dig peterson's the most. I think their articles are better than the others, it is the only one I subscribe to. Have nothing against the others, just feel peterson's is the best. All my buddies get the others so if there is an article in one of the other mags that I want to check out, I can go pick it up at the store...

I always thought that a mag dedicated to competition 4x4 action would be interesting. Tech articles, event coverage, in-depth features on well-built machines. Figured it could cover all aspects of competition - rocks, desert, sand drags, mud, pulling, tough trucks, etc.

The event coverage in particular could be done much better than the glossies. We rarely see who WON, and if they do say who won, they don't go down the list of where everyone else placed, or where everyone stands in the points if there's a points series.

And it would be nice to have some interviews from some insiders in the sport. It's clear the journalists don't have a clue about most of the things they cover. Me being a mud guy, it's VERY discouraging to see shots taken in the mag at mud machines they find with open front diffs. Just for the record, a competition mud machine is SUPPOSED to have an open front diff.

Anyhow, I'd love to see a new mag that would cover some different aspects. I wouldn't want it to get overloaded with tech articles. But, the ones that are there should be top-knotch. And I imagine that if you didn't do a glossy, you wouldn't need a lot of advertisers to cover costs. Hmmmmmmm....

Bollocks to you newbies!

Belly - I read 4WOR, Fourwheeler, 4WD&SU, JP every month. yea - they're all mostly useless in the tech department...but they're still a nice glossy pick-me-up, and occasionally have good ideas (I enjoyed the review of the edelbrock Q-jet an issue back in Fourwheeler I think)

Rich...you know what woule really rock? My friends and I buy and watch all the event and hardcore trail videos, as well as all the TTC ones. But waht would really rock, is a video that does in-depth looks at the hardcore rigs, how and why they erwe built, what they are good and not good at, the compromises and decisions that were made in their construction, interviews with builders and drivers, a good solid look under the hood of the best rigs out there.

THAT would kick ass.

Why? Better control when all of the other tires are screaming as fast as you an spin them?

Yup, better steering control. Even in my class (Hot Street), we're spinning the tires at better than 40 MPH, so it's not like you ever have a situation where one tire gets NO power - even with open diffs. Shoot, both dedicated bog machines I've owned even had open REAR diffs & I doubt it ever hurt me much, if at all. But, most will run a detroit or spool in back with just the front being open.

I read Petersons, they actually do OK as far as coverage. Really enjoyed the TTC stuff. Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick I guess.:D
