My current 4.3l uses a Walbro external. Been happy with that.

Looking for additional possibilities for a GM V8 TBI external pump. I hear some Ford OEM ones might work.

Ideas?

Thanks.

I used the one from Howell. I mounted it on the crossmember right in front of the tank. It was $95 and it works great, I have no complaints about it--except the cheezy bracket they give to mount it that doesn't hold it tight.

I guess I better pay attention to this so I can get fuel to my 4.3L :p

Caddilacs in the early 80's used a fuel pump mounted just in front of the left rear wheel on the fi models.. The one I am using is from a 77 Caddy

Airtex makes a universal external mount fuel pump for a TBI (low pressure) and one for a MPI (higher pressure). I have been using the TBI one for a few years now and have had good luck with it, you can get them at most autopart stores that carry airtex, they will have to order it, and you will probably have to look through the catalog because the parts guy wont know what your talking about. They run about a $100. I can get the P/N if you want. I run a generic feeder pump to a little 1 qt reservoir, and the high pressure pump feeds from that, run the return line from the TBI back to the resevoir and a return line from the reservoir back to the tank, This setup work well and you will never run out of fuel on a hill or in corners.

I haven't tried the E3902 yet, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Found the '77 Caddy pump......E2315, from 425ci TBI.

Though....it is used with an in-tank lifter pump.

FWIW the fuel pump I'm using is from a 1989 Ford F150, 302 EFI engine, external model (Master E2000). ~$75 at Autozone. Mounted it to the frame near the fuel tank with a filter on the input side. So far so good...

I have a Holley pump. I will check the model # when i get home. It is running a bit rich though so i think I need a regulator

Carter makes a fuel pump specifically for TBI swaps in vehicles that originally had a carb.

It's apparently the same pump that holley uses in their projection systems.

It cost me about $140 Canadian. Don't have the model number handy but it was at the back of their catalog.

My Howell was about $90 and is working great. Good topic though, now I know what P&P pumps to look for, for a backup. :D
I dont predict it to be a problem, but I would like to carry a spare pump. Loose that sucker, and you're dead.

Should you use a regulator with the ford truck pump?:roxy:

If it's GM TBI then you don't need a regulator. There is a regulator built into the throttle body. It is necessary to run at least a 3/8" return line on GM TBI when using the Ford pump. You want plenty of flow room for all of the extra fuel that sucker will push.

Eric how long have you been running this setup, the parts site says that to use the E2000 pump you're supposed to use a pusher pump in the tank ???

Sounds like a good idea even though most efi tanks are specially bafffled around the pickup tube it can't hurt especially on the angles that we run!

I am about to put A 95 TBI 350 in my jeep and I am wondering if the stock four cylinder fuel pump will be enough. If anyone knows, please let me know. I would like to get this thing runnin by the end of this upcoming week. If it doesnt please let me know what pump will work and what local auto parts chains carry them. Thanx.

(This is Ericfj40 on jess' computer)

For my TBI 454 I used an airtex E8094. From what I habve heard this pump was made specifically for GM TBI swaps. It works great, puts out about 16 psi, never had a lack of fuel.

For my Vortec engines I use an MSD in line, hi-pressure pump. You can see it on Summit's website part # MSD-2225. This is a great hi-P pump. Below is an image.

I went to Kragon and looked at the Ford pump, the E2000, they want about $120 for this pump and it takes a rubber hose on one side. I am plumming mine into hard line. Does anybody have any other cheeper ideas for me. Also the pump had 95PSI marked on the side, does anybody know what the working pressure with 3/8 lines are?:roxy:
