Ok I need some advice here.

1989 Range Rover.
Interior in in ok condition for a 89 I guess no tears in the seats etc.
Body is great, a couple little dings nothing serious at all.
135K miles on a 3.9 LTR and auto trans.
Now for the bad part.

Doesnt run.
The owner says it needs an engine. States it started blowing allot of "Black" smoke so he drove it about 6 miles home and parked it. This was two years ago.
He said the power steering was out.

Oh ya needs tires also.

Major concerns/ posabilities are:
Swaping engine with Rover engine thats not junk.
Swaping in a GM engine.
Trying to repair the engine thats in it, Black smoke would lean me twards a failed injector (rich condition).

The Good:

Asking $750.00 and I'll bet I can get it for less.

Thanks guys

I won't pay more than $500 for a non-runner...

That said, ignition modules are very common failure modes. As to black smoke...

Oh yeah, the ECUs are prone to weird responses and compromise.
