: 87 Ford lockouts?

I've got a 1987 150 with the TTB axle and factory manual hubs. Well, I was locking them in the other day and I turned the plastic red knob a little too far. Oops. I got a set of warn premiums off of a 79 bronco dana 44 that was laying around figuring that they'd work. They don't.

My axle has a "hub flange". That is, there is no internally splined hub for the warns to slide into. There is a flange with five holes for the lug studs and that flange and the hub are the same part. Take the wheel off and the flange/hub assembly comes off in your hand showing you the bare stub shaft, spindle nuts, outer wheel bearing, etc. I know somebody's seen this kind of hub before somewhere. This was definately the first time I'd seen it.

Does ANYONE make aftermarket lockout hubs for my axle? I called Summit about it and the guy saw a footnote in the warn catalog that said they don't make it. "It's a dealer part" apparently. I know somebody makes something, but who??

Please don't make me buy a set of factory hubs from the dealer!

I'm planning on hitting the boneyard tomorrow to get a set of them, but if somebody makes aftermarket ones that are better I'd rather have them!

Thanks guys.

That's the one single year with the garbage hubs, sorry to say. There are no aftermarket hubs whatsoever for that setup.

Fortunately, you can swap out the rotors (and maybe spindles/knuckles also, not real sure) for ones off any year before or after yours with the D44 (a few early '88s had that same junk) and then you can use the hubs off your '79 axle.

Does anybody else know what I'll have to swap out? I really want to get rid of these things, being that they're broken an all

Everything from the spindles out.

Spindles, hubs, stub shafts, etc.

Rotors and calipers might swap, I'm not sure. Go to autozone.com or partsamerica and look up brake parts for your 87 vs an 89 or 86. (88 was the crossover year where they went back to the "old" setup, so don't trust it for part numbers).

SCORE!!! I went to a junkyard today on the off chance they may have a hub I could replace mine with. They didn't. They had plenty of the other style though, the internally splined hubs, like the warns or MM's. I noticed that the red button on these is the exact same thing that's on mine. That being what I broke I borrowed a phillips from a guy, swiped the button and walked out 'o the place with a shit eatin' grin. Werked perfect.

Thanks for the help fellas.

And if any of you guys with the hat style hubs ever breaks the cheap ass plastic knob, don't worry, I got an extra. Ha!

Thanks for all the advice guys.

just a FWI, you need to change the spindles, stubs, rotor, hub, and lockout.

Yep, I had an '87. I got everything from the axles to the lockout from a '90 model for 100 bux. Nobody wants the TTB junk and practically give it all away.
