Gearing up to build some bumpers for my 82 in the next month or so and i still havent come up with anything that really pleases me. At first i was thinking a pre-runner style but now am leaning towards more of a box/plate version.

whatchoo got front and rear??

Here is what I made for my '99 Limited 4Runner. So far, this thing has pulled me out of Pritchitt Canyon, Moab, and cleared the Whale Rock in Chinaman's Gulch, CO.

Not to hijack, but how does a tube type bumper compare to say, a warn bumper?? (strength wise)

pretty simple, but it works.. and covers up the gap from the body lift.

CasterTroy, who makes that bumper??? That thing is sweet!

A guy that lives up the road from me

He has a bender and is a decent welder. I gave him my idea, he showed me what he had done in the past and we came up with the design together.

I don't know 1st hand...but from what I understand, the warn is pretty flimsy....just a winch bracket with some chrome sheetmetal wrap. Hit a rock with it and it bends up

Depends which warn bumper, mine is a warn and I've beat the shit out of it. I'm surprised how it's held up with some of the pulls I've used on the winch.

Dude... you don't own a Warn BUMPER. That's a transformer grill guard.

The "enforcer" and the "classic" are pretty cheap and thin. They're good at folding under and getting stuck against your tire. :D

Just wanted to have some reassurance. I have one of the cheap ones (came on the truck) and want to build a tube bumper for better clearance. But my father CLAIMS the WARN would be stronger in the event of a crash.

i highly doubt that. i would say the wall of the tubing will definitely be thicker and stronger than the thin crap steel warn uses on those bumpers.

I have seen those crappy warn bumpers. one was packing a warn 10k winch on it and the bumper was bolted on correctly yet the bumper was so flimsy it looked like it was going to pull right off the frame.

well.. i went with the rectangle.
1. because i had it laying around
2. because there are plans down the road for onboard air and i will need a tank. the bumper on our early bronc, is working well for this, so i might as well plan ahead a bit.

Tube bumpers are lame. They bend the fist thing you hit hard. I can ram anything I want and barely scratch this bumper.
