: Anything worth doing with a 3.5 carbie?

Got myself a $400 Rangie Classic today. Two door 3.5, 77 vintage. Good frame, nice running engine, no obvious gearbox problems except non funcitional vacuum control for center diff lock and a leak at rear output. Cracked radiator, leaking tank, shot exhaust and clunky ball joint.

I think I know how to fix the radiator, tank and ball joint relatively cheap.

On top of a new exhaust it also needs something done with the air filters, the stock box doesn't close properly. It is worth even considering going beyond stock exhaust and filter? Bear in mind this is a low budget thing. Priority one is to get it past inspection, due in june. If I like it, there may be a new cam in the future. If I like it even more, this may become the home for my Volvo portals. But no fancy axle upgrades before Volvos and generally CB.

I have seen K&N filters mounted right to the carbies.

Looked cool. Certainly better than the monsterosity that is on there stock

Paddock has them for cheap. I was leaning in that direction.

Is it worth looking for a small Flowmaster or something? I don't want the exhaust totally stock anyway with the low hanging second muffler, so I thing I will go single mufffler and exit through the rear fender.

Janspeed headers? Polishing a turd?

Not really expecting HP, but enhanced low end torque would go nicely with the manual box.

Wilsby,

Can't help much on the 3.5, but strongly encourage you to portal the RR:
