: Easter Jeep Safari
offroadr35 02-26-2002, 03:24 PM what's the deal with easter jeep safari? is it all jeeps? if not and i wanted to go is it an organized event that you have to sign up for or would i just show up? anyone have a good link for info? it sounds like a fun event and it's during my spring break.
Thanks,
Steve
GhettoRig 02-26-2002, 03:35 PM It IS an organized event and you DO have to register. Any vehicle can register, not just Jeeps. It is really too late to register for this year. All the good trail selections are gone. You can, however go down to moab, and run all the trails you like, just try not to interfere with the organized trail runs. There will be litterally thousands of four wheelers in Moab that week, and it can be fun to see.
Roxywheels 02-26-2002, 04:05 PM If you want to be there during EJS just go and not worry about the organized runs. Go to the City Market in the morning and you'll be able to hook up with lots of other wheelers that going out on runs. To avoid the crowds find out what time/date the official EJS run is for that trail and don't go on that date or leave at least an hour ahead of them in the morning. You want to do your best not to get behind them or you could possibly be stuck waiting for a VERY long time. If you go have fun...its a great experience..even if its crowded! :roxy:
landusepbb 02-26-2002, 04:29 PM I can't for the life of me figure out why the hell anyone would want to go to EJS, there are about a million vehicles and 900,000 assholes there, go to Moab when its NOT EJS. Of course I can say that living 2 1/2 hrs. away! :flipoff2:

It is REALLY crowded and there are quite a few jerks, but it is cool to experience at least once...just to be able to see that many 4x's in one place and that many people that share the love of the same hobby! Notice that I said to experience it once? LOL :roxy:

I agree, but for some reason I keep going... Like an addiction. :rasta:
offroadr35 02-26-2002, 04:46 PM it's kinda shitty that my spring break is during EJS, i'd much rather go without the cluttering.
pcorssmit 02-26-2002, 04:53 PM Don't worry about registering. Do worry about finding a campground. The giant crowd thing genreally isn't for me, but its fun once a year.
Pete
StoopidMonkey 02-26-2002, 04:58 PM I thought it was a blast last year. Hott chics with fake boobs and nice rigs. Once you got on the trails i didnt think it was to crowded, we ran golden spike and hardly saw anyone. Some of the trails and obstacles like bump dump potatoe salad that are closer to town will be packed though.
XtrmTJ 02-26-2002, 07:08 PM We went last yr , and are hooked. Yeah there are LOTS of ppl and rigs...but thats 1/2 the fun, seeing what everyone else in the country is running. :D Donr sign up for official runs, just hook up with ppl and go run trails urselves. I,m staying at Joe West,s $wheel drive shop, south of towm, 97 Black TJ, Flat Fenders and 35 in. Boggers. Say Hi, and we,ll hook up for a tail run ? ;) :p :)
:jeep: __(OIIIIIIO)__rOkOn:usa:
jp008 02-26-2002, 07:20 PM I'll be there with about 300 other samurais. I have not registered, but our event is not organized. We go out on the trails we want to run and if another group comes up behind us we just move out of the way and let them pass. (if there is room)
The organized events are not very fun, the leaders don't really let you play on obstacles because there is a certain time frame they have to meet, where-as if you just go and run a trail you can do whatever you want within means of good trail edicut (sp?). Just go down there and have fun. If you meet up with other people they may let you stay at there campsight and join there festivities.
RustyNailJustin 02-26-2002, 08:17 PM This is my 7th year going in a row and its a lot of fun! I dont really like crouds ither but its just an experence. You get a lot of clowns on trails that have no business being there but its still fun. Unless you get traped on Pritchett canyon there is no way around the clowns in there and you can get traped for sure. Only once did I sign up for an organized run and it was ok but a little slow paced. Its pretty fun though.
MoabZJ 02-26-2002, 09:17 PM EJS= Parking lot
Too many morons that don't understand the '3 strikes and your out' clause. takes 12 hours to run a 2 hour trail.
Go another time and you can see more of Moab in less time with less hassle.
Cody
4x4junkie 02-26-2002, 09:30 PM What is camping like out there when the EJS is running? Do you have to find actual campsites or are there plenty of places along dirt roads you can find a cove or something and just pitch your tent anywhere? I've never been there myself.
MoabZJ 02-26-2002, 09:37 PM You should be able to find some camping spots but count on it being a little crowded. It is BLM land so you deffinately won't be the only one camping.
Cody
StoopidMonkey 02-26-2002, 09:55 PM Dont take the wood that is out in the open fallen on the ground either. I made that mistake last year and the Junior rangers told me to throw it back where i found it on the ground. You have to buy it at the Market.
Kensoffroad 02-27-2002, 12:28 AM Ok, if you go to EJS first things first make sure you are fully prepared for the trail & the weather. Carry lots of fluids, fix it crap, some spare parts, etc. Last year we ended up helping out a lot of people who weren't so prepared for a break down! Secondly try to plan out your trails in advance & around the organized trips. It will make things a lot easier on you & traffic on the trail. Next is buy a book of all the trails so you know what trails your rig is capable of finishing. Camping for free isn't too bad. The road leading to poison spider mesa has lots of camping & you could meet some really nice people there. You do need to bring lots of firewood & yes there can be a lot of parties but...its free so you get what you pay for! ;)
I will say that there are jerks everywhere you go & yes some of them do show up at EJS. It is a really fun event where you see a lot of really cool rigs, & meet some really nice people. My one word of advise is don't do the organized trail runs! You will be stuck with people who don't know what they are doing & think their rig can go anywhere!:mad3:
Hope this helps you out some. You can always email me & I can try to help you out further if you decide to go.
TJ Chick :D
MTUCJ7 02-27-2002, 05:04 AM I think its worth it to go to EJS. You get to see all the cool rigs that you would only see in magazines. You get to check out all kinds of different suspension ideas and stuff. Its my second year out there, the first with my Jeep. Make sure to :flipoff2: when you see a van with "Michigan Tech" on the sides pulling a trailer/Jeep!

Belly Dragger 02-27-2002, 06:04 AM Oh yes, EJS.....
Never been during, seen lots of video and stills. This year I'm hooking up with a quite a few people for Big Saturday. Just to watch, see the vendors etc etc. I'll be driving in Friday night, I'll be at the Red Stone Inn then hanging for Big Saturday making rounds meeting people and then boogeying back home Saturday evening.
Be sure to look for the slighty modified green Amigo, then come over and say hi. I've made quite a few e-quaintances and a lot of them are going to be at EJS so it's the perfect opportunity to get out meet everyone and show off my little toy.
Like People have said and I've been told it's unbelievable you gotta see this. And this year I got a vehicle that will be fun to watch from. I'll be back in May for some couple of weeks of wheeling the slickrock.
Zuki dude, and anyone else with more that 50 vehicles in your party. Be careful when running around Moab as a pack. The BLM will eventually come talk to you about permitting your horde. Basically any "organized" event/runs that are over 50 vehicles needs a BLM permit. And the BLM requires insurance..... You see where this is going. Just be a pack of friends but try not to be too obvious. I know, we Isuzu's finally got noticed and now we are a permitted event.
Big Rich 02-27-2002, 08:09 PM Michael, (belly) I'd like to meet up with you again, but have know idea where I'll be at this time, Bob knows the camping/RV plans. I will be working in one of the midway booths during the week and I'm hopeing to get some trail time somehow, but.......Like I said Bob knows where I'm supposed to have room to park the motorhome, ask him and I'll be there.
Rich

Um... so you think 9 out of 10 wheelers are an ass?
Well I guess hanging around ORC can have that affect on people.
I really enjoy EJS. I don't go on the planned runs, just work in around them. It's like an offroad version of Woodstock! I will be out this year again, see ya all out there!
Proving grounds here I come!
locrwln 02-28-2002, 07:27 AM I'm with Chris on this one. As my wife says, EJS is like Disneyland for fourwheelers. I don't do the organized runs either, but it is always a great time watching everyone else and seeing what they are running. Plus the manufacturers are there so you get to see and talk to the guys that make the good stuff.
XtrmTJ 02-28-2002, 09:36 AM Yes, Daniel, it would be hard to miss that THANG ! I,ll stop and say HI ! You gonna wheel that beheamuth ?:D ;) :p :)

twistedspline 02-28-2002, 10:47 AM This will be my 5th year down there. I dont sighn up for runs anymore cuz they take to long. Just go to the market and hook up with people there. This year the club I belong to( Rock Hoppers) is taking an unoficital run on steel bender. We will be runniing the trail loop in the oppisit direction from what the red rockers do for the safarrie. It makes the trail harder and keeps the run ins to a minimum. We will be meeting at the city market at 8 am friday morning so if you wanna come it should be fun. oh ya look for my scrambler it looks like this except the bed and cab are now 2 seprate pices.

Grizzwald13 02-28-2002, 12:49 PM None of the people i wheel with are going this year and I have never been. My rig id still in the garage on jackstands so me wheeling there is a no-go for this year. I was wondering if I drove out there could I catch a ride with someone? I am a good spotter and love crawling over rocks. If anyoue needs a good spotter or just some extra ballast let me know.:usa: And if anyone is heading out there from the south-east PA region i would be willing to pitch in for gas.
CannonBall 03-16-2002, 09:22 PM yeah I'm with offroadr35, my spring break is that week, I'm goin down there anyway. So if anyone in the denver area wants to caravan there that'd be great cause frankly I don't trust my shit, also anyone in the area wanna meet up with me. I'm gonna try and meet with the calpoly goats if they're willing, what'd ya say pig?
-Nate

yep its closed for EJS week
reason they give??
that to many people sneak through and don't pay the BLM trail rates..
they hassled the land owners (who lease it from blm) into shutting it down.. everyone argued against it even the cops!!
next year it will be open.. and all of this year except EJS (look at Patatoe salad now)
WooWoo 03-17-2002, 11:55 AM Ah! Big Saturday... Potato Salad Hill, bed of a P/U... Good friends, lots of nuts! My favorite day of the week during Safari!
Oh, wait... Um, that sounds wrong...
PSH, "watching" from the bed of a P/U, friends that take away the keys so I can't join the broken rigs and rollovers on the hill.
Are we still on for that beer, Austin? (Did ya find a trailer?)
 :D

It's on SATURDAY newbie!!:rasta: :flipoff2:
ARokCrwlr 03-17-2002, 04:29 PM I aggree with most of what's already been posted about EJS. This is the first year in several that I haven't gone. I normally work as a trail official for a couple of days. The rest of the time I hook up with smaller groups and play. It is a good time and worth the trip-just know when and where the official trails are and plan runs where they aren't.
Also, the crowds aren't that bad earlier in the week-they get worse as it gets closer to BIG Sat.
If you go, have fun-I'll be out there for Labor Day this year.
CannonBall 03-17-2002, 09:13 PM do who's gonna be out there but not with the EJS? Sucks that dump bumps closed, I was gonna take my bus up that and show all the punk with SWB how to get it awn!
