: What am I getting myself into? 22re into early toy truck

Alright... so my friend has a project in his garage that he never completed. He has an '83 toy pickup with no motor in it, sitting on some 33's... the radiator is there, transmission is there, t-case is there, exhaust is there... basically a rolling shell, it looks to have at least a little bit of lift as well. He also has a 22re that he was going to put into it, and now has to get rid of the whole setup because he's moving. I'm pondering trading him some stuff for the truck... basically a 300 dollar laptop and some other misc. stuff totalling out to about 500 bucks worth.

Should I do it? The 22re has the complete wiring harness, computer, fuel tank and fuel lines (kinda broke, will need to re-do them probably), basically all the stuff that would be needed to do an EFI conversion, and the motor is in good shape with unknown miles but good compression. Needs a clutch, and probably a power steering pump (do 83 trucks have power steering?).

I'm a jeep person mainly, but I've always wanted an early toyota truck, I just like the looks of 'em. Am I getting in over my head with this or is this project feasible? Is this thing going to be a wiring nightmare? I figure at the very worst I can sell the motor and part out the axles/transfer case/etc off the truck and maybe sell the cab and frame and make my money back, but I'd like to actually get it running and drive it, maybe do a crossover steering conversion on it and weld up the rear end and wheel it. Should I go for it?

Bump... anybody got any thoughts? Maybe I need to be more specific. How tough is putting an EFI 22re into an earlier toyota? Is it something I should attempt, having no experience whatsoever with toyotas and their wiring, or should I just buy a manual with a good wiring diagram for a later truck/4runner with EFI and go for it?

I have to look again, but I believe I will have the engine bay wiring harness from the donor truck, should I just seperate all the extraneous stuff (headlights, etc) out and use two harnesses (stock 83 for headlights, everything else, etc) and the newer one stripped of all that stuff for the EFI?

What about the dash wiring... gages, etc? Complicated or should it be fairly straightforward?

And last but not least... will the motor even bolt up to the bellhousing I have (stock 83 truck transmission/t-case, 87 4runner motor).
