Well, I just got my bike on some new rubber etc, and i decided to take a ride around town to make sure it was all stilll in good shape after sitting for a year or so, and well it wasent. The front suspension separated, and i lost the front end of my bike going down hill at about 35 MPH on pavement. So, here is what you look like after that kind of a fall.
PS, I walked a 1/4 mile to the hospital, Got 22 stiches 2 were Sub Q, and they couldnt numb my lip enough, so i felt every stich.

Not all helmets cover your face, and they would just say its a rider error and offer you a crash replacement.

Damn that sux dude, but it is kinda cartoon like :D
I would have to guess 50% of all riders have had this happen at least once?
Usually on our BMXers as kids, I was lucky and wheelied out of my close call.
On face plants I've seen helmets peel towards the back exposing the forehead a lot, same with the side. Some of the higher end new helmets address this issue. I was high on a 10' berm when I was center punched and fell to the bottom of the berm more or less 10' to the side of my MTB helmet and that sucker shifted to the oposite side of impact exposing my nogin! Bells got rang'd that day! Proper strap adjustment helps a lot!

HTF did the front suspension "separate", and what kind of suspension was it?

It was a Head shock on a Cannondale. The internals came loose over time I guess, it was an older bike with the original head shock on it. I mean the first head shock ever made.
Holy smoke! Bummer dude. Why did it seperate? Were bolts loose?
