I had another one go out last night, this makes it about the third one on a '98 with 35's and 108K miles.

Any way to service and/or replace the bearings without having to replace the whole hub bearing assembly?

When I took it apart last night (non-ABS) I saw no way to add grease or a zerk fitting or anything. I did put grease on the bearing seal in the back but that's about it.

I'd like to repair the 2 old ones I have and use them as spares.

Who's done and what do you have to do to fix them?

Thanks,

Al

I still have the old bearings off my 98 Dana 60. (Someday) I plan on lathing out the built in race, pressing in a new race, then putting in a new bearing.

One word... SCREWED!!! Those bearing are a unit design. You can't get around that unless you want to replace everything from the inside out. Dynatrac DOES carry a changover kit.

Good luck
the best price I found was at autoparts.com

Dynatrac doesn't carry shit for that crappy dana 44, only an over priced turd polish kit for the crappy unit bearing 60

Hate to agree with him but he's right. On the other hand Flatty has a 2500 not a 1500 so I don't think he looks around for dana 44 shit.

I was thinking 2500 crap. As for the crappy D60 front. I will swap over to a Chebby kingpin 60 front later.

Oreilly or Auto Zone has lifetime warranty units, buy one and warranty it forever. Truthfully, after having a 97 dodge with big tires and then getting a 83 dodge with a dana 44, I miss the unit bearings. Everytime you want to get into the carrier or ring and pinion the bearings are held in with 3 bolts. On the old 44, PITA, hubs, two nuts, then 6 bolts on the spindle and beat the piss out of it. It sucks, you can't lube or service them, but lifetime warranty, and you never have to mess with it. Don't have to pack bearings, don't have to adjust them all teh time, nothing.

I was talking to a tech about those just because I've seen several posts on here about them. He told me that the usual cause for failure was due to a u-joint starting to go bad. Not sure myself as I'm poor and can't afford those new toys. Just a side note, I have seen them on Ebay, new Spicer pieces for buy it now for $149.
