so this motor has been progressively getting worse w/ lately...it's a fresh motor and is not having any internal issues but I have yet to really chase down the problem cause I hate working on motors.

Here the prob.....when you're on the throttle extremely light it runs normal...when you get on it about 1/4-1/2 it bucks and chugs and miss fires...when you floor it it runs like a raped ape.

4 barrel edelbrock
k and N
malory distributor w/ the eye deal
malory coil
good wires
mechanical fuel pump
no line leaks

It could be anything of those in my eyes. i heard the malory distributor works perfect or doesn't work at all so it should be that...unless the cap needs replaced but it looks perfect.

Carb issue? everything has less than 12k miles on it. the carb runs awesome at all angles....... oddly. It starts right up hot or cold, chokes perfect etc.

is it some kind of vapor locking...maybe super dirty fuel filter...broke parts in the carb?

fouled plugs...hell I don't know...I usually just pull this shit out and put in an efi motor lol....I liked it when it ran good. hauls ass and gets 19mpg.

Start with simple things first, change your fuel filter. Make sure the air filter is clean. If you have a cat, make sure you didn't bash it off any rocks and knock the brick loose. I wouldn't worry too much about the carb if it was tuned properly when it was first installed. Edelbrocks are pretty reliable.

Phil- I fought a very similar problem last year. It would idle all day long but as soon as I gassed it it would cough and choke like it was loading up. Long story short, the end result was that my coil was overheating because I didn't have a ballast resitor in the ignition. I installed an external type, replaced the coil and it ran fine.

Take a look at your coil, is the bottom protruding out?

I vote for the fuel filter as well. When you are barely into it, the gas will not get through. When youhammer it, the fuel will puch itself out of the filter into the carb.

Or a kinked fuel line. That's what happend on my Bronco 71. It was at one of the lines at the selector switch for the dual tanks. Only difference is that it wouldn't run over 40 or so. wasn't getting enough fuel.

Does it seem like it does it at a certain rpm? I had an issue with a mallory dist, it magicly lost its advance springs. It would do about what you said.

wow I forgot about this post. thanks for the info guys. my balast resistor is okay. the unilite system seems to be messed up now. I'm getting a stock w/ petronics setup from Rubicrawler tonight so we'll see if that does it. The fuel filter, air filter, carb all seem good....but it just wreaks of an electrical issue...then it died altogether lol :D should be up and running tomorrow!
