I took my DC driveshaft to be reworked. The same shop that quoted me to do the work when I got the driveshaft now won't even consider the job, much less quote building a new one from scratch. Their rebuilder is "Afraid" of it

I got the center ball joint kit from NAPA (paid slightly more than you guys did, but it'll be delivered and it's on an open account).

Are the universals the same as the rest of the Rover driveshafts? Precision 344, Dana 504-x? I'd prefer the Danas as the grease zerks are on the ends of the bearing caps, rather than on the spider, which should work better for the DC application.

The stupid bastards at the driveshaft shop offered me a driveshaft that they could get from Utah (gee, I wonder who that was?), but they wanted $600!

Thanx in advance,
PT

Yes the uj's are the same on the whole shaft. Same numbers you quoted.
Have you had one apart before? It's a hell of a lot easier on the DC side if you remove all the clips and work the caps off of one side at a time.
Or you can send it to me and I'll rebuild it for you!
Putting it back together is actually pretty easy. Good luck, the hard part was finding the numbers. :flipoff2:

Yes, Precision #344 on the D2 shaft. If you get a Dana part number, please share. I would like to make a note of it....

Dana P/N 5-4X. TRW- Federal Mogul uses the same part number. Curiously, they also are listed as 1300 (Volvo).

Got one this morning, another to be delivered tomorrow morning.

Also, I'm gonna see if the smaller Disco I flange yoke will fit/work. My concern here is that there may not be sufficient clearance to bolt the damned thing to the transfer case.
