Title says it all, I'm wondering if I"m just better off MIG welding it, quicker but the TIG provides a much prettier weld and you know you get penetration with the TIG

If I had a tig machine I'd definatly tig the cage. The only drawbacks of tig as far as im concerned is the slowness, you need exact fitup and having room for the torch...

I use mig on all my stuff.

i used to work in a racecar shop, I only used the mig, but the tig only came out for chrome-moly stuff and aluminum, so id say dont waste your time because if its good enough for a racecar, its good enough for us

Thanks guys appreciate the info, I have the ability to do it, but I think I"m gonna go with the general opinion and just mig it. Faster and I'm kind of impatient at times.

thanks again

TIG is awesome...but a MIG should be sufficient, especially if you are impatient. Roll cages are one area where you don't want to get impatient and do a shitty weld.

Lefthander racecar chassis are all welded with a small 120VAC MIG. It works for them!

I did most of my chassis with a TIG, mostly because I can and I am better with a TIG than a MIG, also you can weld all night in the summer in shorts, a t-shirt and flip-flops. Good MIG welding would do just fine though

Being that I have been tig welding for the last 25 years it is only natural for me to weld most all my stuff with tig.
My cage, tube fenders, brushguard, beadlocks, stainless exhaust, are all tig welded but I do fire up the mig on occasion. :D

We are doing two maybe three cages here in the near future.
The WIFE isn't too thrilled about the Up and Over cage I want to hand down to her when I finish my Alston cage....:)

We/I will TIG these cuz I can and it is better IF you can TIG well...

MIG is probably plenty good, but TIG is better...
