so last night i searched through 18 pages and didnt see what i was looking for so here we go. what is wrong with using the stock rear drive shaft? i have chevys in the rear, an extra 3 inch block welded to the frame where the rear shackle mount is and im using a 6 inch shackle. it has 35's on it right now. ive been driving around with the stock rear drive shaft in it. seems to be ok but i know it doesnt have alot of slip in it. should i have it lengthend or do you think its fine how it is? i drive a really bad highway to work, the road is really tore up and my truck bounces all over the place, and it seams to be doing just fine.

wb bus 80 between arden and downtown seems to be the worst for me,
aside from the high pitch vibration you get from a single u joint it should be fine.
as for the freeway a cv d-line helps alot, just need to get another front flange for the t-case, or re-drill the rear flange

so even wheeling i shouldnt worry about making it longer? i just dont want it to pull out, what would be the least amount of slip you want to be safe? if i remember correctly i had like 3 to 5 inches

The rear shaft doesn't need as much slip as the front. Since the spring shackles move the axle forward under droop and the pinion tends to tip up under load, you don't see a lot of length change in back. Also, with the pinion centered, it won't see any of the affects of articulation like the offset front does. If you have more than about 1.5" extra compression length on the shaft, you could have it lengthened a bit if needed.

signature says 84 extracabyota, to me that says 2 piece d-line, do you still have the two piece d-line? If so get rid of it. It will be nothing but problems. First off, a 1 piece d-line will be ok but a 2 piece d-line will tear up the carrier bearings left and right (like once a month), my recomendation is to go to d-lines of Sacramento in West Sacramento and have them make you a d-line out of a front d-line and call it good

The reason you dont have to worry about it much is because the shackles are on the opposite side of the d-line. If the shackles were on the same side as the d-line (front end), you would need a lot more slip, but because the shackles are on theother side its not that much of an issue :D
