I've got a 1980 chevrolet 1/2 ton pickup that already has a 4" suspension lift and 35" gateway monster mudders. It has 2.73 gears ( I know ??) and a 4-speed tranny, Dana 44 open front and a 12 bolt open rear. Everything is in good condition, the motor is a fresh rebuilt 350. My question is, I am going to change the gears and put a locker front and rear and put 35-38 Boggers on it. Should I try to find a dana 60 and regear it or will the dana44 be okay? Any suggestions on what locker to put in it? I think I might put a limited slip in the front so I can drive on the road. Also what kind of transfer case should be in it, I cant find the right tail housing bushing for it anywhere?

I bet the power sucks with those gears.If you're going to stay with 35"s the d44 should be ok.The rear I would upgrade to a semi-floater 6 lug 14 bolt out of an 88-98 light duty 3/4 ton.If you're going to go bigger than 35"s I would get a d60 front and a full floater 14 bolt.Does your t-case have a fixed yoke? It's probably a np205{gear drive}. If it were a 73-77 it would be a np203{chain drive} and if it were a 81-87 it would be a 208{alluminum}. I hope this helps.

the transfer has a slip yoke and is made of cast iron (case).
