twistedspline 02-27-2002, 04:37 PM This is just the reason i quit going to the ju and quaratrash bb.
I may be a newbie on here but I would rather be the smallest fish in this pond than swim next to his 2 wheel drive conversion....
WillyPete 02-27-2002, 05:16 PM jeez... i gave that guy 5 different solutions to his "problem" (his real problem seems to be that he wants a CAR). i hope he listens :mad3:
2WD jeeps are :rainbow:
bigjeepinYJ 02-27-2002, 05:38 PM Some should ask him if he needs a set of 20's to run that ghetto rig on!:flipoff2:

I'll second that. I may not know jack compared to most of the guys on here but I cant deal with JU anymore. If I read one more post about how to fit 31's on a TJ I'll snap.
That ought to be illegal. Think we could get 4wd CJ's put on the endangered species list? Or maybe start the American Society for the Prevention Of Cruelty to Jeeps?
what i think is the best is when people take 2wd trucks and put all the cool offraod stuff on them (aka fog lights, roof racks, grille inserts, stickers, bumpers) and then call theirselves offraoders. this guy has a lifted 2wd truck at my school and he has a 4wd reciever inserted in the rear hitch. i pity the fools

At my old high school. All the rich boys (about 12 of them) had 2wheel drive trucks with like 35s and crap on them. It was so funny to see their faces when I outwheeled them in my STOCK yj with 28" street tires. I can't believe someone would spend over $2000 on a 2WD truck that can't go anywhere. And whats with this 2WD conversion.......... whats wrong with just leaving the transfer case in 2WD and taking the front driveshaft out.... seems easy enough to me... or better yet WHEEL THE DAMN THING LIKE A REAL JEEP OWNER
AGGIECJ-7 02-27-2002, 11:08 PM my roommate just bought a FJ40 and it is 2WD. the replaced the stock motor with a chevy unit and put a 2wd automatic behind the chevy motor. guess it was cheaper for them to just swap another motor/tranny combo then to fix the problem. if this isnt :rainbow: enough for you, they also cut the spring hangers off and welde in 2x2 box tubing in to give it a lift.
i just dont get people now days
coopcj7 02-28-2002, 09:20 AM Well guys I am the guy that everyone in here is bashing. You all heard o f my 2wd conversion. I know everone wnatsw me to change it back t0 4wd and that is what I am going to do. And for all the people that said that I will spend more time creating the custom 2wd than to find the parts to make it 4wd. They are wrong. I spent a total of 2 hours switching it over. Including putting a new axle in rebuilding a tranny with a new tail shaft. and putting everything back into running condition. This isn't a hard conversion. The reason I didn't take out the front driveshaft was because with a quadratrac system in it (also remeber the cones inside were shot. ) It wont move with only one driveshaft. yes all who think aboutthis say it will but I know from first hand experience cause i built the damn thing. so if you all feel like emailing me with your insults go ahead but this is only a temporary conversion when summer roles around and I am not in school then things will change. I have another frame that has a new driveline in it and everything else then I will swap them out. Nothing is permanent right now just a daily driver Jeep. Plus I dont feel like wrecking my only transportation to and from school right now!!!!

Now, why did you have to come in here an spoil the fun? Sorry, man but a 2wd Jeep is a sin no matter how you look at it.
twistedspline 02-28-2002, 09:46 AM In my old Yj I had the 2 inch blocks welded on my frame in all 8 points where the springs tie in. Plus I did reinforse the frame to take the extra stress. It actually worked pritty good. I was able to run a 2 inch sua lift and fit 33 with minimal fender trimming. It wasnt the best set up I know:flipoff2: but better than alot of the bolt on stiff as hell springs that are out.
Bald1 02-28-2002, 09:52 AM Well coopcj7...if your jeep has the BW1339 tcase (q-track), all you have to do to get the damn thing moving is turn the E-drive switch to Emergency drive. This would lock your t-case into 50/50 mode (true 4wd)....then you're good to go.
Whatever the case may be....good to hear it's only a temporary fix..........2wd jeep:confused: :barf:

Coop,
What you did actually does make sense. Believe it or not there have been questions asked about how to eliminate the transfercase permantly just because they wanted the Jeep look and not the additional maintence. That's just stupid, but that's not your reasoning behind your conversion.
However, what I don't understand is why do you now want a locker in the rear rather than a transfercase. I replied in your JU thread that you should use a D20 tcase and adapter from a late 60s early 70s waggy or Jtruck. It would bolt up and you'd be back to a functional 4WD for less than the cost of a locker.
Grendel 03-06-2002, 08:43 AM Damn.
I guess it makes sense, from his perspective
. Why not buy a used q-track for 50 and bolt it in? I can think if four places that have em/
rokryder 03-06-2002, 12:28 PM wow that was my first trip to JU-land and that was frickin amazing! its kinda like an acid trip. Nothing makes sense and people are asking wierd questions that have no purpose. :flipoff2:
Grendel 03-06-2002, 12:36 PM I didn't really spend much time at either site.
Lurked a while on most of the boards, but I don't really have the time for most of the BS.

Pull out the Tcase and make it 2wd? on Purpose?
HOW GAY.
This makes me sick to even hear about....
How about you sell that Jeep to someone who appreciates it and buy a CAR
I agree with you DRM, all the way!!!
Mr.RatBastard 03-06-2002, 08:26 PM All this is great .BUT if I remember right you wanted a locker  Fix your junk then worry about a locker.
