Gear setup question??????

Hey all, got a question about how to read gear patterns. What is more important the shape of the markings or the location (i.e. centerred face to flank). Or are both equally important?

With my somewhat limited knowledge from two gear setups, the position from face/flank determines its shape, so all equally important.

Whats slightly less important is location between heel/toe. As long as its not running off the end, it should be fine. Patterns closer to the toe are more desirable than those close to the heel, but often you don't have a choice with some gear brand/housing combos.

A simple search should bring up plenty of info about this (along with numerous examples of acceptable & unacceptable patterns).
