I'm looking into building a full size truggy. What would be the best year for a old Ford truck.

needs the following

1. strong frame!!

2. big strong motor - carbed fine- would be running on LPG

3. granny tranny would be nice

4. NP205 Tcase

5. Dual 60s 0r D60/70

6. Susp don't care it will be getting a rear single link just like my jeep. Stock coils or leafs don't care.

7. cheap and easy to get in Texas.

Jopes has you covered, 78-79 F350. They're probably the toughest of the Ford line, putting the Super Duty to shame. :smokin:

dana 60 front and rear
I put a 14bolt in the rear

Is 4.56 still the lowest gear set you can get for a 14 bolt?.. was the rear 60 a SF that came stock in the F250?.

In the F350 you get a 60/70 combo right?..

I'm planning on either going rockwells or 60/70 combo. I want to run 44s or 42s.

I don't think 5.13s have been mass produced for the 14 bolt yet...

yep, easily the toughest truck ford ever built. i was stupid for passing one up a couple years ago.

Yes, 5.13 gears for the 14 bolt are mass produced. reider racing sells them in thick and thin sets.

any known issue with the frame cracking around the steering box or anything like that.

pffft...thats a POS chevy prob. Another vote for the 78/79 F-350, but good luck finding one they are only getting rarer. If you do find one it will pry cost a pretty penny if it is in decent shape and the seller knows his ass from his head, but if you find somebody who doesnt know what they have you can damn near get it for free. I got one a few weeks ago for parts, a running 79 F-350 4X4 extended cab, 400, c6, 203 for CHEAP :flipoff2:
