: what TRE's have the same taper as.......
liveaxle 02-27-2002, 11:44 AM I need a tie rod end insert for my Toy pitman arm. Kong's Off-road has one for sale that will accept the ES2233L or a ES2234R (Moog part #). Does anybody know if a 150, 2010, 2026, or a 2027 has the same taper as the 2233/2234? I wouldn't mind using the 2234R but I don't want to use the 2233L because I won't be using the hole in the TRE.
So what I'm looking for is a pair of TRE's (without a steerig stabilizer hole) that will fit in the aforemention TRE pitman arm insert.

Ben W 02-27-2002, 12:58 PM ES2233L, ES2234R and ES2010L all have the same size taper. ES150L and ES150R have a smaller taper. ES2026R and ES2027L have a larger taper.
For what you are asking, I would suggest an ES2234R and ES2010L
For your pitman arm, I would use a high travel joint like the ES2026R or ES2027L. They have the same taper as the others, but it is deeper taper since the shank is bigger. They are still 1.5"/ft like the ES2234R
Liveaxle, on a related note, do you have a link to those Kong inserts?
Thanks in advance!

No, they don't have much information on their site (http://www.kongs4x4.com/kongstoyotaproducts.html). I called them this morning and the fellow that I talked with give me the info that I posted.

That's a good point. I wouldn't mind using the ES2027L and the ES2026R for everything but I don't know who makes a tapered insert for my Toyota steering arm that will fit a 2027L. Kong's and FROB only sell an insert that will accept the smaller tapered TRE's.

Why not get the insert and ream it out to fit the TRE you want to use?
the difference is slight
the snap on reamer #r121 is cheap, i ordered mine today $55cdn

Can anyone vouch for the "performance" of this Snap On $40usd reamer for TRE's?
$40 beats $100 for the "real deal."

Just to save a few bucks by not having to buy the insert and the reamer. Maybe I can find somebody to reem it for me for a few dollars. I'm just talking out loud now :emb4:.
