I have a 95 250 with the 7.5 and a bad e40d. I can't find a tranny anywhere, but can find a million wrecked 7.3 drivetrains for cheap around here. What all would be involved swappin in the 7.3 driveline inplace of my 460? Dennis

Oof! That would be alot of work. My opinion it wouldnt be worth it. Id rather see you buy a running 7.3 truck and sell yours. Why dont you just rebuild the e4od in your truck now?

Colorado Ron is right, that would be a major undertaking. It can be done, but you need a lot of time and you better know what your doing when setting up the diesel. I've seen a lot of trucks for sale after the owner tried to convert from gas to diesel and couldn't work out the bugs.

OK. I was just thinking if it was an easy swap, I would do it. I can find whole 7.3 drivetrains around here for less than it would take to rebuild the e40d. I was also kinda thinking about the 7.3 being alittle more easy gas wise. Thanks

Are you talking 7.3 IDI, or 7.3 PSD?
An idi isn't THAT bad a swap. You just eliminate most of the computer stuff and the electric fuel pumps, rest is pretty straightforward. Have to shove an 83-86 Rad in there unless you feel like changing the rad support. This is simplyfing things alot, but, an IDI can be done. A PSD, then you're definatley better off to just buy a truck that had one to start with.

Why would anyone waste time putting an IDI in? If you do that, youll just be pissed off later when you see PSDs running circles around you. Not worth all the work for IDI in my opinion. You can pick IDI trucks up for lil to nothing.

they're no power house but they run alright. there's a lot of untapped power in those engines. they still hold a lot of value up here for whatever reason.

Yup!

Put a Sidewinder on it and out run the powerstrokes no problem at all.
I would rather have the mechanical 7.3 engine anyways.

Check out www.fordcummins.com
I would put a 12V Cummins in it way before an IDI or Stroke.

I mentioned that on a prevoius post as well. I was surprised how many people said no way on the cummins conversion. Id do it in a heartbeat if my PSD went.
