i bought a 62 scout 80 last week. it has the 4 cylinder. my friend drove it home form san jose and parked it in his grage. it ran fine. he claimed it wouldnt start and took off the coil. i bought it from him and i replaced the coil. i have also replaced the points, the spark plugs, coil wire, wires leading to the coil, the balace resistor. the motor turns over fine and i have fuel. there is no spark. what do u think?

1) 12 volts to the + side of the coil with the key on?
2) What's the dwell reading? Not the same as v-8, right...
3) Something wrong with the little black metal box on the firewall that regulates voltage? There is nothing special about Scouts other than that; this is basic stuff newbie! :flipoff2: :shaking:

That or point gap.

Point gap will influence the dwell. ;)

It's been awhile since I messed with points. IIRC one could change one without changing the other. If someone doesn't know WTF he's doing either one could be off and cause trouble. I'll have a look-see in the AM.

the points were set wrong. that wasnt my fault because i had this guy at an auto parts store in alameda put them in. i didnt touch them after that because i didnt want to screw it up more. but it starts fine and runs very strong now. thanks for the help.
