I also posted this in the general 4x4 section but was hoping for more commnets from the likes of you folks.

I found a 1990 f-250 custom 4x4 7.3Liter diesel for $3750.00.
it's a standard cab. lumber rack and three heavy duty locking tool boxes in the bed. Body and interior are imaculate.
It has 235,000 miles on it with all maintenance records. It was fleet maintained by the local dealership. Recent tranny, radiator, and brake, service was completed.

I know that some of these diesels can run for over 300,000 miles.

Would you buy this thing for $3000.00. to use for tow vehicle purposes only and an occasional drive to work.

I've been looking at newer trucks for much much more, Around $15,000. I would like to be able to save some money and not get locked into a multi ytear payment plan.

How much does a new motor or a rebuild cost for one of these?

Diesel motors are $$$ to have rebuilded or even to buy a rebuild. I was told for 6.9 liter diesel it would be around $4200 either way, and i would think a 7.3 liter diesel would be any less.

Hope this helps, it has alot of miles on it. Good luck.

My 93 F-250 with the non-turbo 7.3 had 265K on it when I got rid of it. Never had any problems out of it. One of the killers of these engines is cavitation in the water passages. Make sure they have been treating the cooling system correctly

these motors are known for going 400-600,000 miles before a rebuild if properly maintained...

My 94 Diesel had over 500,000km(310,000 miles) on it when I sold it last year and I still see it driving around once in a while. If the truck has verifiable maintenance records I would have no problems buying it as these engines, as previously stated have service lifes in excess of 500,000 miles. I have been quoted prices of $5000-6000 for a complete rebuild of a PSD including warranty, but this is Canadian $$$ and a "good guy" prices.
