Cracked open a virgn 440 and found some yellow paint.
Anybody know why the factory would do this?

It's some sort of inspection mark. I forget what for, but I think Galen Govier or somenody covered it in on of the Mopar mags, years ago. Check the front pad for any stampings to indicate any machine work the factory may have done. I've seen white paint also but I don't know if there is a difference in meaning per the color.

I read that article, They summed it up by saying, " probably as the motor was being assembled the inspector/ assembler set his cup of paint on the motor and it simply fell over". I will go back through my issues and see what month for sure. Oddly, I have seen the same thing on a motor that had six pack rods and was factory blueprinted it was in a 72 imperial.
