Before I start fabbing up a new skidplate or modifying my existing '94 YJ's skid, I was wondering what type of steal jockstrap you guys have built to hold these two bad boys in place and provide good support :D
The nv4500 is one big Bi:flipoff2:ch!!!. With the Atlas hanging off of her back, I pushed them both as high as I possible could without either touching the tub. I stopped with about 1" of room before the Atlas would hit the tub.
So What have you guys done? Pictures would be great. Use the stock skid or make my own :)
Check out some of these pictures of what I have now.

I'm running that combo with a 4.2L in my CJ7. The stock plate didn't work too well. I wound up going with a Matkins Extreme skidplate. It's plenty beefy but the thing hangs soooo fawkin low it drags on EVERYthing. In retrospect I would have tried to fab something if I had any welding skills when I did the swap.
Here's a link to a guy who did a NICE plate on a Scrambler in a similar situation:

I really like the idea of the angle iron on the outside of the frame-rails so you aren't using captured nutz that can break off inside the frame.

This is my friend's jeep, he was kind enough to flop it just for the skidplate view. :flipoff2:
He's running a 4.2-NV4500-clocked D300. There are "tabs" that wrap up the side of the frame that mount the thing. He has a separate tranny crossmember for support, so this is only a skidplate. It mounts right on the bottom of the frame, and that "bump" you see for the tranny is about all that hangs down.

Here is how I mounted mine. I'm gonna make a separate skid plate...It turned out pretty cool.

CJ Lagos, thats a NICE setup. One of the things I've really been spoiled by is the ability to drop my skid and not have to jack/support the tranny while I work on it. I think I may have to use something like that when I set up my next generation.

CJ,
That is what I was planning on doing with my nv4500 mount as well. I cannot tell from you picture, but did you use bushings anywhere in the nv4500 crossmember? I was going to put bushing where the crosssmember attaches to the frame.
(Your crossmember looks bad ass). You say you are making a skid plate or you already have. Do you care to elaborate?

Mine is mounted solid because I have my motor solidly mounted also. I think you could just use a leaf spring bushing on the end of the tubing and have tabs on the frame, that'd be slick.
I dont know yet on the skidplate. My tranny is above the bottom of the frame rails but the atlas hangs down about 1/2". I want to protect the atlas ...probaly won't be very elaborate...just a piece of plate.

Check out T-Rox stuff. They are a great upcoming local fab shop w/ some great "completely flat" skid plates. www.t-rox.com
