: Who sells SS braided brake lines besides MAF?
Who else sells the braided stainless brake lines, other than MAF? I am not giving MAF another dime:mad: , but as far as I have found on the WWW, they are the only ones that sell them for TLC. Can I go to a brake specialty shop and give them my rubber lines and tell them to make copies only in braided stainless. I live here in INDY, so I am right near Earl's. Thanks
Rick.
rugburn 02-28-2002, 11:50 AM Make the drive.
It's a one stop shop!
Rugburn,
I drive past Gasoline Alley everyday, sometimes I even duck down it to 10th st when traffic is fooked OH wait, it is always fooked down Rockville. I wasnt sure how receptive Earls was to making stuff. Spaceghost had mentioned something to me about them not making TLC stuff because they make those lines for MAF and there was some sort of legal shiznit. Maybe I will yank the rubber lines off tonight and stop there after work tomorrow. Are they $reasonable$?
Thanks,
Rick.
Cruiserhaven 02-28-2002, 12:04 PM It's probably the same deal (as Man-it-ain't-Free), but Spector also sells them.
rugburn 02-28-2002, 12:05 PM Your best bet if cost is a major concern would be to go to Seal Products off of Franklin Rd. and have them build them for you.
Talk about cost savings.....
715-1100:beer:
Cost isnt a Major issue, I just dont want to spend $200 on lines when I can get them from, Apparently SOR, for $100.
Ricko.
rugburn 02-28-2002, 12:33 PM You may want to blow over to Franklin and check them out.
I'll bet they will beat the C note and you'll have them that day.

GhettoRig 02-28-2002, 12:37 PM Skyjacker makes real nice ones. Should be able to get em from any Skyjacker dealer, or online.
morgan 02-28-2002, 01:18 PM I got a rear set from Downey.

I think they were made by Earl's (http://www.tlca.org/pipermail/landcruisers/2002-February/000896.html), but I'm not sure.
Morgan
Why do you want stainless lines? Are you trying to find longer lines or just need new lines and want SS?
morgan 02-28-2002, 01:41 PM I got them because they had the right fittings for the Toyota (LC) tee and the Monte Carlo calipers, and because a friend of mine helped me get a good price on them.

SpaceGhost 02-28-2002, 01:46 PM Earls and most others only make some (high demand) stainless lines that are DOT approved. That is the key. Earls won't make a few for an individual, at least not at the Indy service center. I doubt anybody will make brake lines anywhere around here, custom and in the quantities you are seeking. If they do they don't give a rats ass about DOT certification, hope they care more about yours!
Now if you want to make your own, using fittings and line, rated way above your needs, visit North American Race Car parts, just North of Earls. Much better prices, and the guys are more like us.
Calipers and Master Cylinder are 10x1mm to -3an. male to male. You'll need the female 10x1mm to -3 males to connect to your hardline. Buy the steel swivel fittings (-3) and some hose and you are set.
Ask for Tom if he's there, say land cruiser, and I'm certain he'll ask if we know each other. Then I would lie from that point on, lol.
We watching video tonight? Do I need beer?
That question was for Zog, not you Morgan. I know why you did yours like that. :D
Mike, I think we are doing the video tonight, have to confirm with the Boss, I will call when I get home ~5ish. Yes, beer is good, I can stop on my way over and grab a 6er too. Is Reljac in town today? I will probably get the stink eye from the Boss, but oh well.:D
Eric,
I want braided stainless, because it gives crisper braking, wear better, blah, blah, blah.... I am sure you know the pitch on braided stainless lines. And I do need new soft lines with some extra length, and they just look cool :flipoff2: My goal is to do as much of the soft lines in the truck in braided stainless (i.e. brakes, fuel, etc.)
Panzer 02-28-2002, 09:07 PM I can't verify this but rumor has it that the minitrucks use the same size fittings.
If this is true you can use the Procomp, etc minitruck SS lines and they are lots cheaper.Try to cross reference these soft line PN's with the SS PN's for the rear flex line-
NAPA #38009 or
raybestos BH38009
Do not know what the fronts are.
nuclearlemon 02-28-2002, 09:08 PM any half ass decent hot rod shop. i got mine at a locally owned shop for all three brake lines and two clutch lines (me and my bro) for less than $125.

Minis have the same fittings, but they are plumbed totally different in the front. Cruisers have a single line from the frame to the front axle, near the diff, then 2 more shorty lines at each knuckle. So a full set of SS lines is 4 hoses.
Minis have hard lines plumbed to each front caliper, with long hoses from the frame to the caliper. There are only 3 hoses in a mini system.
I bought the MAF set about 18 months ago, after I installed my OME susp. They are NOT Earl's lines, despite the picture in the catalog. They are some cheap knock-offs. I called and complained when I first got them, they gave me some BS story about they stopped using Earl's lines as they had too many get returned for leaks, so they use these now. They did offer to take them back for full refund (I was shocked), but I decided to keep them. They're... OK, but not great. It was my first experience with MAF, likely my last.
I have Russell lines on my mini, I'm not happy with them. The fittings on the rear line are not right, I can't get them to stop leaking, so it's still in the box in the garage.
4x4Connection sells a kit too, but it's something like $190, which is outrageous.
SS brake lines are one of the first mods I usually do on a truck. There is a noticable improvement in braking, stiffer pedal, etc. Never been sorry I did it.
Jettech 03-01-2002, 04:45 AM Thats what I did, run AN-3 lines and get the correct adapters.
I got my stuff from http://www.amstreetrod.com/
Rob
Jettech is right about Spaceghost being right.
After seeing Spaceghost's stuff last night, well, it is THE shit. That is how I am going to go. wont be cheap, but I wont be at the mercy of anyone else, but my own big, dumb ass. Simple and stong and trail-servicable.
Spaceghost,
Thanks for the:beer: I will be picking you brain on plumbing ??? after I get stumped.
Ricko.
