Im needing to replace the bushings on my 96 grand cherokee. Ive looked into using polyurathane
bushings but all the "old timers" I know say its the worst thing you could do to a vehicle thats driven daily. They say it kills the ride and the ecssesive vibration is just bad for everything. So i was wandering if anyone had any comments or if anyone knew of a product that you could recomend.
--also going to replace shocks if anyone has any suggestions.
(again i drive it evryday so i need something thats as good on the road as off)
Thanks,
steve
Go rubber - poly needs lubrication or it squeeks. Also go to the newbie section. :shaking:

Poly is over-rated for ordinary street use.
But this is Pirate. Why the hell would we care what you do to a stock street-driven uni-bodyied ZJ??? I say put heims all around and call it good.
Did you read ANYTHING on this site before posting?

Another vote for hiems all around. I barely hear mine on the street (and I'm being serious here)

I vote Rubber, RE joints or heims. Their are too many negatives with polyurethane in link ends, a-arms or anyplace with a lot of motion.

Ditto....Keep it rubber....
I have completed removing all the poly on my CJ and will soon be done removing all the poly on the wife's Cherokee.
Everyone thinks poly is great because they replace their old worn out rubber with poly and it drives straight again....well, if you replace the old rubber with new rubber, it will still drive straight (assuming nothing else is wrong)
FYI...the top Baja racers use rubber...poly breaks.

Their are too many negatives with polyurethane in link ends, a-arms or anyplace with a lot of motion. There we go. That's exactly right. Polly is great for NON-MOVING parts only - cross members, motor and tranny mounts, that sort of thing.

Thanks guys you deffinatley solved that one for me. Guess Ill have more money to spend
on the shocks. For around $200 ill probley go w/ Monroe Reflex or the ranchos (7000?).
Then hopefully ill have some cash left to do the exhast. I was lookin for a simple system w/
a high flow muffler and ill probley lose the catalitic converters(does that make me a bad person?)
Ive seen a few cat-back systems that seem real chep in comparison(to like, Borla). But does it
matter, if im already losing the cat's and im not real worried about rust here in tha south. I was
also planning to add a K&N air intake. Should i hold off on the exhast until then or does it make
a diffrence? Well thanks again guys. And if im crazy for going w/ those shocks let me know.
(By the way ive been using my truck as a long distance mobile
office since i got it a little over 5 years ago. It was either parked
at the airport or i was drivin it a thousand miles a week. BUT i just
got a new job, localy, so its on now. You havent seen the last of me)
