: ignition lock wiring diagram

On my '95 Range Rover the ignition lock is due for replacement. The wiring coming out the back is, as is most NA Rovers of this era I would presume, green/white, white/red, yellow, white, and brown. I sourced a new lock out of England which only has 4 wires. The wires on the European spec is white/red, white/orange, white, and brown.

The NA spec has the brown and green/white running to a plug under the dash which looks like it continues through the firewall. The other three go to the fuse panel and plug in just below the other wiring that plugs into the fuse panel.

I am wondering if I can use the European spec lock without negating too many safety features, would be nice to keep the airbags operating properly but the parking lock is already been removed as part of diagnosing the problem.

I probably should start looking out for a used electrical shop manual.

Any help would be appreciated!

i bet someone on RRO would know this - PBB really isn't the place for such questions ... we come here to ignore these irritating nuances of the beasts. the other lists are better suited for this type of thing - and are minus all the machismo. in other words ... stop trying to pad your post-count with this drivel about ignition locks! :flipoff2: get your weld awnn, and show us some new links or sumthin ... or if you have nothing better to do, convert your diffs to toyota - all the cool kids are doin' it :smokin:

I'll wait for someone who has a wiring diagram to share.

Well, I hope whichever ignition you go with doesn't cause those airbags to deploy while crawling curbs at the mall ... The only airbags to be discussed around here generally have firestone embossed on the side -

Have you looked at the manual's diagrams there, drifter?

That's funny Eric. Down here all the airbags are big, semi-hard and filled with silicone. :flipoff2: I did see one with a tatoo of Firestone though... :)

Gee, don't real pirates just rip the switch assembly off the back and screw it to the lock assembly? Oh yeah, we remove the lock and use a screwdriver! We don't need no stinkin' keys.

(the more engineering minded of us would use our ohmmeters to trace the circuit and go from there :flipoff2:)

KEYS ?
you don't need that fancy lock put it on ebay and buy a push button switch from your friendly autozone store and a toggle switch
and allow about 25 min's for install and you should be done
( instuctions included ) if need them but thier are only 4 -5 wires should be no big deal :flipoff2: :flipoff2: in the processes of doing this very prodject do to a broken key in the the switch will report apon completion have fun
