Well.. I got some sad news today.. a kid who rides in a local spot just died last night from injuries suffered while mountain biking a week prior. Behind a mall in my town there is a large empty lot which had been used by mountain bikers for the last several years to build stunts. There were never any serious injuries before, I broke my wrist and I believe someone else dislocated a shoulder. Unfortunately, while attempting a jump the kid had never tried before(a fairly large dirtjump) he cased the jump and fell face first to the ground breaking his neck. He was airlifted to hospital and was immediately put on life support. I just got the news last night that he did not make it :( :( Please be careful when you ride, things like this do not need to happen. Even though it may seem cool to the biggest jump right away you need to work your way up to it. Sadly many of the kids riding today believe they are invincible and that it will never happen to them. Well its not true.. another of my close friends had a similar incident but recovered after being unconcious for 5 minutes, although he had some back pain for several days and facial injuries from the rocks digging into his face.. nothing permanent but painful nonetheless.

Ride hard but ride safe.

Had to get that off my chest. :barf:

Man, I hate to hear that. Sometimes, when looking at how far sports have progressed (bikes, skateboards, morotcross, etc) I wonder that more of us do not push the envelope past the terminal edge. Just a cool young guy out there going for it...could have been any of us.

That suck :(
I have curtailed my xtreme riding quite a bit. Figure I can ride for many years to come if I just go out and enjoy myself rather than trying to impress the X-Gamers. Been there done that growing up on a bmx bike. Heck my bud went down on the S.Yuba and fractured a rib, now he's not riding for awhile. Sux not to ride! So now when I say, "see you at the bottom" it doesn't mean I'll be the first one there :flipoff2:

Ouch... another fallen rider :( My friend fell on July 4th last year, fractured 3 vertebrae, pretty much exactly the way this rider fell. He's 17 right now and has no movement below his torso I believe. Everybody be careful out there and wear your gear.

I learned the hard way too. Don't let your buddies talk you into doing stupid stuff. Not many of us actually try this stuff unless we're pretty confident, loaded or talked into it. Sorry to hear of your friend. As the word goes, he's in a better place than we are. Learning from his accident is the lesson the lord gave us. Prayers to his family for their loss and yours.

Sorry to hear this.

I've had my share of severe wrecks my self, now I find I don't heal so well.
