I have a 98' TJ and am running 3.5 RE springs. It's about time to get some arms, I'm really stuck between some Rusty's adjustables or the Tera upgrade to longarms. I'm probally going to be throwing my 1 inch spacers ontop of these so are long arms even effective at that low of a lift. I heard that long arms with a short lift hit the frame sometimes. thanks........John

Save your money for RE's long arm upgrade kit. Once you ride in a long arm TJ (no, tera's kit is not a true long arm setup, so don't waste your money on it), you'll see why I say this.

don't buy the tera lift becouse it sucks. It makes your lower arms
long and your uppers stock length, that will make every thing
binde up, so you wouldn't get any more flex than with short arms.
If it was me I would get the RE long arm kit.

RE's kit is very nice. Cost some $$$ but nice stuff. The guys at the sales counters arent always the sharpest tools in the shed but nice products.

I run Tera's short arms with about 6" of suspension lift and have put off upgrading to the Long arm kit because the lack of available uppers.

I was thinking of swapping in the RE upgrade ...but the price in Canada is outrageous..so I may get Tera's Lowers and Fab up my own uppers with some Dom tubing and some heim joints.

Now there's advice.

It makes your lower arms long and your uppers stock length, that will make every thing binde up.
So the fact that a short control arm lift kit still keeps the arms unparallel and not in the same plane, doesn't cause the suspension to bind up? Jeez, guess all these people building custom longarm kits were absent the day they taught physics..

As far as a long arm is concerned, your flex (assuming you keep the factory shock/spring/CA mounting positions will be limited by either your shocks and/or springs and/or bumpstops. If your bumpstops/springs/shocks are your limiting factor, you can put a control 10 times longer than factory on your jeep...each tire will still on travel up or down as far as the limiting factor allows its. However, there is a large advantage in the method by which the suspension travels with longer lowers. The advantage is that the axles rotate in a larger arc, therefore do not tend to "walk" under the vehicle as much. This is a huge advantage in rockcrawling, where the tire is allowed to travel up something, as opposed to away from it.

Does the suspension "bind"..yes by defintion, but the way the suspensions cycles when it actually is use is much more important that what it looks like on an RTI ramp.

Every bolt-on LA TJ suspension kit has it's pros/cons...there is not a single "best" kit, because everyone's definition of best is different.

The right thing to do is compare them in there functionallity, practicallity, safety, cost, etc and then determine which is the best for you.

OK Smart Arse how did you come to this brilliant deduction?
Have you actually bought stuff from Rusty or just jerking over your computer. I have bought a few things from Rusty and aside from being very helpful was VERY prompt in getting stuff to me in Aust.....Then again shipping times to dreamland might take a bit longer.

I could not agree more. IMHO....
Tera long arm
Pros are: It's a longArm. Its fairly cost effective for a longam.
Cons are: The arms are VERY skinny. It leaves short uppers.

RE Long arm
Pros are: It's a longArm. Strong. Includes uppers and lower.
Cons are: Cost. Front relies on ONE frame bracket on either side.

Rustys Adjustables
Pros are: Cheap. Strong (esp the front uppers & 4 lowers). Stock bushings easy replacements.
Cons are: It's still a short arm....BUT will work just fine with upto 6" lift.

Yes I run Rusty's upper and lower adjustables with about 5½" lift. IMHO they were a great upgrade and I would have zero hesitation doing the same again. The arms provide PLENTY of flex and are NOT the limiting factor in my current travel.

MY 0.02

I am running a mix and match lift.
RE 6" springs with 1 " spacer

Teraflex upper flex arms - Turned out to lenghten them
With Teraflex long arm lower kit.

Works fine no binding and more flex than I had with the TERA 3 inch kit.

The biggest problem I have seen so far is that with the teralong arm kit, I "surfed" over a small 2foot rock and when the tire exited. the lower long arm bent. This was an easy rock by all standards. and the long arm bent. Let me clairfy.
This was an EASY ROCK like 2wd.... And the long arm BENT.

So save your money and get a RE kit.

Will it hit your frame... Sorry I can't say. But you should try it.

I'm running Tera's 4inch with their lowers. Sure I wanted the RE longarm I've seen it in action but the kids have to eat occasionally so in goes the Tera and I'll probably use their longarm kit later because of the price. Theirs a point where you buy the best and a point where you buy what you need to get you where you want to go with your rig and family. Always remember the RE longarm might be better but either one is better than what most guys get to run ever. Appreciate that fact and it doesn't seem to matter anymore but if you got the cash get it by all means
