Hey there-

Getting close the rally and our trip to the con this summer. Want to get a new head count as to who is still planning on heading out to cali. for the Rubicon the first week on August. Want to make sure it is still on for everybody before my dad buys a plane ticket to join us. Lets start talking again.

Out for the 'con. I start graduate school on August 28th, and there's TMS to do between now and then. Was really looking forward to it, but other stuff is more important (woah, that sounded grown-up). :(

I will be there. With the wife and a few friends. Barring any unforseen stuff...

Grad school for camera jockies? What they teach you advanced fingering of the shutter control or how to use your eyeballs as a light meter? :flipoff2:

Good luck with it. I have been having a real bear of a time trying to get done with mine. A 9mo in the house isn't contributing to a proper study environment. But luckily I will be done long before #2 shows up.

i'm still planning on coming down. I'll be solo, though; leaving the Mrs. and daughter at home for this one.

EDIT: 'Con only

Sorry to hear you can't make it, Mike - good luck with the summer! Mine's been a real bitch with work so far, leaving little to no time for work on the rover.

That week is Hot August nights in Reno and Wooden Boat Week in Tahoe. If you want to stay in a hotel, you better book it NOW!

What vehicles are going on the trip? I asked a question on the Rubicon bbs about wheelbase on the Con and figure I should ask guys who know Rovers. I know my 130 aint the best vehicle to take on the Con but is it a totaly stupid idea. I have the Con and the Dusy Ershim on my list of trails to do this summer and have been getting varying responses from I'm nuts to just expect a little more damage than the short rigs. Departure angle is better than one might think for the 130, better than a stock RR and 110. Flame away but I realy want to get on these trails.

Can not tell you if the 130 is okay or not. I am driving a 90 with 35's. So I have no idea. Never been on the Rubicon bofore. Hey Scout- thanks for the heads up on the events. Got any good suggestions for Hotels in tahoe that are not outrageously expensive? To bad you can not make it Slade. Seems as though our group is shrinking. No problem I am still planning on being there for sure.

+1 :(

Grad school for camera jockeys is 2 years of the same stuff I'd already be doing, throw in some more art history, a few sculpture and printmaking classes, and I get a piece of paper that says I *really do* know what I'm doing.

Hopefully it'll help me get a teaching job at a university somewhere that I want my kids to go to school at. :D

Out!

Cummins has a bad camshaft lobe and lifter on #2 intake, so I bought a Land Cruiser for DD duty while I save some dough for another engine (cheaper than fixing mine). Cruiser's gotta stay stockish and I'm not running the Con in a 60 with 31s on it.

I heard a rumor that the first weekend offroading in the cruiser it broke down?

That would be cool. Course you would get the job and they would insist on going to a totally different school.

I got lucky in that my program was online so I was able to work on it while I was gone. Down side is it's so easy to blow stuff off and I miss the personal interaction of real classes.

Who did you hear that from? That's so weird. Actually it ran great but I ran it out of diesel in Nova Scotia on the 101. We pushed it with a Series One (which was on a towbar behind the 60) till we got to the nearest Irvings. What a freaking weekend - LOTS of driving.

The 60 has been completely ultra super reliable. It was the 109 that blew the fawk up the first weekend :flipoff2:

Actually I will already be there for the jeepers the weekend before. I go with my aunt every year. She has a jeep and invites my 90 to see if I can get flamed. It is actually a lot of fun.

Hotels at the Con! Camp Creek is the best. You wake up and your in the middle of the trail! Plenty of luxury rooms with great views.

Will have a couple of trucks, warm shower and probably an espresso machine. (If I get it to work, will make my dad happy!)

It's going to be a blast!

Yeah, plus the main sculpture prof. is from Korea (love that kim-chi, remember), and he's a heck of a welder. Does a lot of sculpture in steel,etc... I'll *finally* get to learn how to weld from him and put that Millermatic 175 I've owned for 4 years to work. :D
