I've got a 96 Fulsize 1/2 ton. Lots aof air noise at the fire wall when the pedal is depressed. Are these replaceable, rebuildable? Is this a common problem, would I be better off buying a new one or hitting the junk yard? Thanks for any help?

But does the booster still work??? If so you just have the stereo turned down too low!!!

Needs a booster. I would go new, as it's a safety thing, but i suppose you could yard it. DB

It works somewhat intermitent, when you first apply the brakes it seems normal but then turns hard as a rock. The engine starts to shudder as if there was a huge vacuum leak, which there is. I'll price it out and probably just go new.

You could go new (for a considerable sum) but you could buy 10 used ones for the same price. I bought a used one from a chevy van off of ebay. works great. The only issue was that I had to extend the arm (the part that extends through the firewall and attaches to the brake pedal). Piece of cake and saved me enough $$ to buy a couple of tires.
Disclaimer: I only occassionally drive this on the road, so the safety issue might be your biggest concern, mine was simply braking ability. You must weigh these issues carefully.
Also, a brake booster is a brake booster for the most part. the smaller ones will provide the braking, and you could get any old brake booster, however if you have oversize meats, you should upgrade to a larger one anyway to increase stopping power.
my .02 cents worth

Holy crap, how do you get the retainer clip off of the pedal linkage?!
There's not much room to get in there anyway, but I must be missing something.

New booster did the job, brakes work great again.
