I have searched, but didn't really find what I was looking for.

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried putting propane on a newer Dodge truck with the 46re transmissions. I'm curious as to how the transmissions are controlled if the engine ECU is removed.

if it is 96 or newer then you must have the ecu to shift the tranny... unless you swapped in an old 3 speed torque flite

there is a natural gas version of the 5.2L Ram, maybe those parts would work wiht a little modding?

I will have to look into the natural gas stuff.

As far as the trannys themselves go, from what I can tell the electronic ones still appear to be hydraulically shifted to me. There only appears to be one or 2 extra wires over my old 46RH tranny from what I can see. This is my main concern right now since ignition and the rest of it will be easy.

If I remember right, the Dodges ran on LP gas, which is Propane, is it not? I know my trailer's accessories say they run on LP and all I've ever put in it was regular Propane tanks, like for a gas grill.

So what years did Dodge offer the CNG trucks? I would like to try and look one up on alldata but don't know what years to look for.

Thanks for the input guys!

We have a bunch of CNG dodges at work. They are 96 model year with 5.2L engines. They use injectors just like a gas motor. Under the hood you wouldn't even know it wasn't gasoline. I kinda wonder if a guy could make one run on propane instead of CNG? Hmmmm?

Thanks for all the replies! From the research I have done on the CNG powered Dodges this afternoon I have come to the conclusion that after 1996 Chrysler suspended the program. So I will have to search elsewhere for transmission controls if I decide to proceed.

Does anyone have any good information about what is actually electronically controlled in these transmissions?

i can not tell you what actully is electronic but i know the computter takes readings from the vss and shifts the tranny bassed on the speed and and throtal positon... there is a stand alone kit for the 700r4, so there might be one for the re's... i would give KRC in FL a call. they do a lot of late model dodge performance stuff. they might be able to put you onto somethign

I might have an electronic control box that works with your factory computer. I'll have to look. It would then be dual fuel. I don't have the rest of the parts though.

Please let me know if you have something that would work!
