i just bought a 97 pathfinder and when going about 60 to 70 mph and pressing the gas and letting off it has a body/suspenion shift in the rear end. i have checked all of the sway bars and torsion bars and nothing is loose or worn so i am totally lost. if anyone has heard anything like this or has a sugestion please post... thanks

That'd be your rear axle control arm bushings. Common problem. Not too tough to fix. Ever visited NPORA? All Pathfinder info all the time. http://npora.ipbhost.com

Some other things to check would be the driveshaft U-joints and the freeplay and fluid level/quality in the rear diff. If you can rotate the driveshaft more than 1/4"-1/2" while in gear standing still then the trouble might be the U-joints are worn out. It would give you a little bump whenever you hit the gas as that slack causes a delay in the power connection. The torque converter (assuming automatic) can also give a bump like that, but it would also show other signs of wear like slipping between gears. If the the gear oil is bad in the rear it could start binding under load from excessive heat build up.

Wow, I have a 1991 Pathfinder and have always wondered where the "clunk" came from.

Mine has the 4" Trailmaster lift on it and just thought it was all part of the lift.

I'll have to crawl under mine and check it out also.
