: New tail-light housing.....

I decided to go with a different tail-light set-up. Something easier to repair/replace (since my factory stuff was busted up and different from what I was finding in the salvage yards) So I went with this

new sheetmetal w/hole cut out, to cover up the current light hole.

Recessed trailer light (Cheap & easy to find & replace)

Was having A LOT of trouble finding a decent sized back-up light. They were all like 5-6" round and looked stupid with the verticle oval that I'm using. So I went to a truck stop and found this.

It looks really clean (I think) and it turns out there was no room for even a 4" round back-up light.

Whaddya guys think. I like it, and I thought the board could use another tech-info thread SEE BELOW

If I was running an 80 I would go with the round also, so that'll be cool.

Hmm, will that be cut to fit into the Scout II oval opening, or are redoing the entire corner? Post up the finish pics, I'd like to see em.

Actually I hadn't thought of cutting it to fit, that's a damn good idea, I was just gonna wrap it around the corner and weld it flush.

Hmmmmm....thanks for the idea, I'm gonna see if that will fit, and I will post pics when I'm done.

If you ever need the oval white light I can get them or dig up the address of a trailer parts supply that I used to get parts from when a couple of us were building trailers.
Thats a good idea though probably have to do something similar cause mine are held together with that cheap lens tape.

Do you mean a smaller oval white light??

I saw a lot of bigger oval white lights, like my red one, but I thought two big ones would look tacky for a DD rig. But that's just me.

Dude you got to go with the clear lenses with red bulbs.

No they're the same size as the red ones. You might try and find a dealer for Redneck trailers they might be able to find something smaller. I'll check with a truck body manufacturing plant I used to work for and see what they have. Didn't read the post right that's what happens after a couple of pain killers shouldn't be trying to post stuff

They make them smaller. I use these as under hood lights.

At first that looked bigger, but then I noticed the 3.5" floppy.

I'm happy with the light I was able to find. Smaller would be cool, but this one is nicely proportioned to the oval unit.

Check out the new Suburbans and old Pontiacs in the junkyards. They have a light with a 10-foot cord on a wind-up wheel under the hood.

84-2001 cherokees and some fords also have a hood light with a retractable cord
