Hey. I'm looking into putting gears in my sammy, the 3.73 with 32's are not my friend on the highway. What gearing should i go with, also i have a 4 to 1 tcase, the high is 1.58. My biggest thing is I want to be able to go up hills are highway speed (sacramento to placerville at 40 mph just isnt right). Also, about how much would it cost for the gears, i've looked around but I'm not all that sure what is required.

Also, where have you guys mounted your cb's? I want to keep the interior as clean looking as possible. I was thinking eather on the passanger side of the tranny tunnel or right beside the ebrake. Any input would be great. thanks

4:57 would be the magic # for sami axles if you want to retain your highway speed but still have a decent low offroad northcoast offroad gears and mini kit cost me $414.00 to my door
and your in luck I'm getting my R/P tech article published on izook
should be in the tech section tomorrow all on the exact gear I listed. ching, ching mind you just my o2 man I got to get some sleep or maybee more

I would think that a set of 4.62 out of a auto sidekick/tracker would do the trick. Also I mounted my CB under the glove box just above the little shelf it's out of the way there.

I mounted my CB on the bottom side of the dash to the left side of the steering wheel. It is fine there and your leg doesn't hit it (I thought it might, but I was wrong).

As for gears, I would say go lower. I have 4.56's and have a very hard time on the freeway. This is, however, at about 6500 ft above sea level, so you would probably be fine down there at a little lower elevation. :p ~Steve

In the ash tray..... :)

A Toyota guy told me about this, I'm not positive what year models that works on, but if you have an 88 (square vents?), it should work. The two small/cheap Radio Shack CB's will fit where the ash tray is PERFECTLY. It's a real clean and handy setup. There is also a little Uniden model that will fit. They are not the best CBs, but if you install a decent antenna they work just fine for trail talk.... :D

i have a tin-top sami so i mounted my cb on the steel bar that goes across the top just behind the seats, it is great there, i have a mic with a realy short cord and i let the mic hang right beside me.......easy reach without worring about that damn clip......
also, i'd go with the 4.62 out of a track/kick i'll have 33-35"s on mine soon and i'll be putting the 5.13 out or a std. track/kick so the 4.62 should do you fine...... and try the 4to 1 case, that might just be enough for your likings.......

Why dont you look into getting Sumo tcase???

It will make up the difference in your highway gears, and give you awesome crawling!!! This way you can run the stock R&P and not worry about breaking gear sets!

I just stuffed it IN the dash to the left of the steering wheel. I also ran an extension for the mike plug so the mike plugs in down by where the drivers seat meets the tranny tunnel.

why not just rip the radio out? I know your guys' sammies must be as loud as mine, which means the radio is useless (I'm sure my one functioning water damaged speaker helps too). would be a perfect protective shelf for the CB.

That's exactly what I did. I pulled that radio and installed the CB in the origional radio box. It works great. I also removed my ashtray and mounted the handset clip on the bottom lip of the ashtray hole. It never comes loose while driving, and is always easy to grab and stow.

billjohn, could you explain how you did that, thats very sweet looking. the remove stereo and/or ashtray may work for others, but i smoke and love loud music, so that isn't a good idea. thanks for all the input guys.

I just found a CB that had a mike jack in the back, and I used the remote speaker jack for a link to a little speaker on the dash. I cut out the rectangles on the left side of the steering wheel to fit the CB ('92). I made sure the fit was tight, and then fabbed a mount inside the dash that attached to the bar that runs through the lower part of the dash.
