: anti theft devices?

I want to bring my cruiser to the city, but having the top off all summer and with it not having a steering wheel lock or any anti-theft stuff on it I'm worried about it being stolen. my "friends" used to hop in it, pull it out of gear and push it with another truck to a new location. I don't want theifs to do this. I was thinking about a NASCAR type detachable steering wheel, or finally breaking down and buying an alarm from a shop. Any ideas on how to stop theifs??

Thanks in advance

Kevin

Set up a transmission lock (locks the shifter into reverse), get a Grant wheel with the removal system, set up a pedal lock (locks the brake and clutch together in the raised position, so they can't be pressed), etc...

Well hidden switches....line lock and then you have to get a magnetic or rf based shutdown device that if they jack you can get out of the car but it will only go so far.....the get lowjack.....to find it should the theifs have a tow truck....

im thinking about putting a switch on the wire going to the starter (ignition)

i have 3 things on my truck:
1: fuel shutoff switch, on the line from the tank to the injector pump, i have a inline fuel switch
2: battery isolation switch, most dont know what it is or does, also necessary for some competitions
3: ignition earth switch, like mcgee is talking about

the thing is remembering to even switch them over, and then forgetting to switch them back on :( but its all pretty cool

cant protect your stereo though, so im gunna get a locking console.................

I use to carry a big ass chain with a padlock, and wrap it around my steering wheel to the roll cage.

Ive got a big NRA sticker on the front corner of the dash.......not alot of theifs like looking over their shoulder wondering if some hick with a 12 guage is watching his pride and joy.

I do the same as dog walker except I use a cable and wrap it around the clutch pedal and the brake pedal then snake it through the steering wheel and end at the roll caged.

Since military hummers don't have key ignitions they use the same cable throught he steering wheel thing. We used to "borrow" other units equipment by just driving away with it, it'll still make shallow turns with the cable installed. Easier to do in the field than on a city street but still something to think about.

Make sure you turn the wheel to one side before you lock it with the cable.
I'd add the ignition and/or fuel cutout.
With the current prices on FJ40s I would think about the lojack too.

They may not have this item in Australia!
It is a hidden transmitter or transponder that can be traced by the police if vehicle is stolen!

Get a Bull Mastif, pitbull, rottweiler, and chain one of them inside your cruzah. On second thought, thats not a good overnight idea, unless you like the cleanup.........
The best anti theft device is the device that locks the clutch and brake pedals to the floor. :skull:

Ever seen the origional 'Gone in 60 Seconds'? Hehe, people will wonder why your rollcage is literally that...hehehehe

My rig has a thing where the left turn signal has to be on to allow the starter to enguage...rudimentary (and annoying), but if ya rigged a switch for that somewhere, it's something to think about.

Check out the Autolock http://www.autolock.com/. If you could get your hands on one of those wheel boots that they put on cars when you are parked ilegally that would be the ultimate.
