: Replacing SLS with coils

I own a 99 DII with a failing SLS system. I want to replace my entire suspension (shocks too) with an OME kit. I was wondering if someone could give me the lowdown on who has the best value for a complete OME kit.

Background:
I have a TJM bumper/brushguard with a winch-tray and a Superwinch X9 up front. The rear end has the jump seats which probably weigh about 35 pounds each (70 total). I will also be carrying a small amount of gear when off-road (<100 pounds) that will NOT be in the vehicle when onroad. The vehicle will see 80% on-road driving. I plan on retaining my stock rims and will not be changing gearing. I will likely be running 265-75R15 tires.

PS: I generally prefer firmer riding shock on my vehicles as I do not like excessive body roll. At the same time, I like my fillings to remain in my teeth.

I just did this upgrade on my Mothers Disco II this weekend.

If you don't havce access to a T4 system to tell it to deflate the bags unhook all the fittings at the pump and they will deflate slowly. Remove the pump and tie up all your wiring to the chassis.

Basically...

- Pull the retaining clips from the tops of the bags
- Rotate the bag and drop it out
- Drill out the two holes on the spring mount [They are a hair smaller than 3/8" and I wanted to be sure the hardware would be stout enough.]
- Fit you new/used stock lower perches with new hardware [1.25" 3/8 bolts]
- Fit your new spring w/ or w/o the top isolator
- Use a stock or upgraded lower spring retaining bar. [Head down to the local hardware store and get a piece of galvanized flat bar. Choose your thickness depening on how much wheeling you are going to be doing. I think mine was 1.25" wide. Use the perches for a template and drill your holes.]
- Repeat on side two

The SLS light will light on the dash and while you are moving it will "ding" annoyingly until you can hook it up to a T4 and tell it the SLS system is no longer present.

All in all my mother is much happier with the coils. The ride is better and she doesn't have to deal with failing bags.

Hope this helps, if you need any more info just let me know. Also, if you need a set of old perches I can help you out.

Easiest way to do that is with Google. Check out RN, BP, etc see what they offer for prices, then do a search for other retailers, specifically in the UK and OZ. Send out some emails, get shipping prices, and then compare. :shaking:

Has anyone used the rovetym suspension kit?

I am considering the 751's up front as I will be installing a second battery before fall so there will be another 50#'s up front. Are 751's necessary or will the 779's be sufficient. If I do order the 751's (supposedly a 3" lift), is there a 3" spring for the rear or will I end up needing some spacers?

I never understood SLS. I mean, I understand what it's supposed to do, but I never understood the utility of it. I can understand air suspension, but why only in the rear? Was there really a perceived demand in the market for the self-leveling feature?
